Thank you, mr. Hernandez."
"Tell your father, we'll sign the contract next week."
CRASH
Jason whirled his head and ran towards the door, Walter followed behind quickly. Shards of yellow and red across the floor. The lamp was crushed, behind it a girl in a pale blue dress, with her silk dark hair down. Walter looked into her soulless, grey/blue eyes. "Jennifer, are you alright?" Jason asked her frantically. A maid ran in, taking in the scene with shock. "I'm sorry, sir. I just left her to get her food and-"
"Just take her to her room!" He silenced. The maid apologized again, before turning to the girl, then taking her away. Walter stared at Jason who was usually confident, but for the first time since he know him, there was fear in his eyes. Jason is an rich man, who's known for being a sociable and well-know entrepreneur. He turned towards Walter and apologized.
"Who was that?" The words slipped before he could stop himself.
For a second, just a second, Jason glared at him, before plastering an incredulous smile on his face. "That's my sister, Jennifer, she's unwell, so she lives with me."
Walter nodded, before thanking him once again and taking his leave. On the way home, he couldn't stop thinking about those unnerving grey/blue eyes.
When he rose the next morning, he decided to go back to the Hernandez residence. He paced in front of the house, thinking of an excuse as to why he returned.

Jennifer:
Jennifer stood at the window, staring with unflinching eyes. There was no point in trying to run away, her brother's guards would return her home. But this place wasn't home. It was a cage. She was confined and couldn't leave. Deep into her thoughts, she was surprised to hear a knock, then two. She looked at the boy, now sitting at the tree branch near the window.
She opened the window and looked at him. He was tall, with soft hazel eyes, reminding her of honey. His hair was a rich brown, that complemented his bronze skin. "You're the one who was with Jason yesterday. Why are you up here? Do you know how wrong this is? I'll call the maid!" She threatened. Walter ignored her question and returned one instead "What were you thinking about?"
She ignored his question and sat down at the edge of her bed. "You should get off the tree." She stated softly. "You looked deep in thought what were you thinking about?" He pushed. "It doesn't matter." She said with indifference as she stared into nothing. It was as if she lost all forms of  sensory; a hollow shell, that wasn't extant yet.
"It does matter." He whispered, loudly enough for her to hear. She looked  up at him and something shone in them. Light. It was light that shone there, but only for a fraction of a second.

Everyday, Walter would climb up that same tree to talk to her. As the days went by, she started to talk to him. They became friends who would talk about everything and anything, until one day..
"Why don't you ever go out?" Walter asked.
Her eyes darkened at the question.
"I'm sorry, if I bothered-"
"I do want to, but Jason won't let me." She interrupted.
Jennifer looked at his knuckles, now white from gripping the arm chair tightly. Walter didn't say anything, so she went on. "Our parents died in an accident so he's overprotective of me and says he's protecting me." At this point, Walter was well past his outrage. "Why didn't you run away or tell someone? Why did you just let him alienate you from the world?!" He snapped. She looked at him and shrugged.  "He's still my only family and he did it because he cares about me." Her words seemed forced, as if she was trying to convince herself as well, like it was too hard to believe.
"That's not caring, that's locking you up! Love is like medicine. Its helpful when you need it, but too much could kill." Silence crept into the room, as the both just stared at one another.
"Would you like to go on a stroll?" He asked with calm, his eyes still filled with ice, cold rage. She looked at him and said "but-"
"It's fine." he cut her off, "your brother is at a meeting for two hours and your maid will come in when it's time for dinner. We still have time, and I'll return you before anyone notices."
She nodded her head, but was still worried. They locked her bedroom door and climbed down the tree carefully. As they walked at the park and passed by the children, she smiled warmly, her face overjoyed.
As he watched her, the rage slipping away, he smiled. "Do you want to see something amazing?" He asked, the smile still there. Surprised, she nodded her head slowly. He took her hand, pulling her towards the trees. As they kept going, the place looked unfamiliar. The trees were overhead, shielding them from the heat of the sun. As they kept going, there was a light at the end. Walter pulled, excitedly running towards it. "It's beautiful." She gasped.
It was shimmering and flowing endlessly, like it stretched to the ends of earth. The water was so clear, the fish swimming underneath were visible. "How did.." She turned around to ask, but Walter wasn't there. "Walter! Where are you." Silence. "Walter!" Still nothing. She looked around, panicking. He couldn't have left me on my own. there's no way. Walter isn't like that, or at least I hoped he wasn't.
She ran back towards the river. Maybe he just lied down or-
She was cut off, by a splash. She opened her eyes, looked at Walter, then surveyed her reflection in the water. She was drenched from the tow up. Walter clenched his stomach, laughing, "got yeah!" She looked up at him, tears sliding down her cheeks. He looked at, his smile faltering, changing to concern. "What happened? Did you get hurt? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-" she shook her her, vigorously. She rubbed her eyes as he walked up to her. He reached out a hand to put in her shoulder. "Then what is it?" She looked up, smiling, though tears were still streaming down her cheeks. "It's just that I'm so happy. I thought you left me, but your still here." His face turned serious. "Of course I wouldn't leave you, nothing will keep me away from you. Not even all your brother's guards." The last part made her chuckle. "I'm sorry?" He said. She looked at him surprised, then shook her head. "Don't be." She stood at the tips of her toes and pulled him closer, giving him a peck on the cheek. "Thank you." And she'd meant it. No one had ever cared about her this much. At least, not in the way Walter had cared.

Walter:
Her smile was brighter than the sun. It was beautiful and made it seem like everything was perfect. I love her. The thought took him by surprise. He knew it before, but didn't admit it to himself until now. He looked at her and wondered why'd he ever hesitate. She was beautiful and meant everything to him. Her smile started to wither. "What's wrong?" She asked nervously. He couldn't let her go back to her brother and be locked away again. Jennifer's smile would disappear, then. She doesn't deserve to live locked up because of an accident from long ago. Walter stared at her, then asked the question pondering his mind for the past week.
"Will you marry me?"
