I woke up the next morning to the sound of birds chirping and a just rising sun from my window. Today was the day. I was going to start my new high school today. I showered, dried my hair, straightened it, brushed my teeth and got dressed. Today I was going wear my new black skinny jeans my Pierce The Veil t-shirt with some bracelets and my hair styled. I smiled at myself in the mirror and skipped down the stairs completely forgetting about the gift that I set a side.

"Maxine, did you open your gift?" Mum said when I got down the stairs.

"No, I didn't know there was one," I replied.

I went back up the stairs and opened the gift, it was a lap top with accessories and a case, I put it all in and ran back down the stairs to thank my mum.

She smiled, dad had already left for work and mum was going to take me to school and help me get around. We drove to the school, an hour early so I could get everything finished. Mum introduced me to the principle then left for work.

"You like it here so far?" The principle asked. he was a nice man, tall 6'3" compared to my 5'2". he was black but a had a warm smile that relieved my nervousness. He wore a dark blue suit and no tie. I nodded in reply to his question, not making a sound.

We walked to my first classroom and to all my others, introducing me to the teachers and such. He left and I walked back to my first class room, I say in a desk at the very back in a corner close to the ceiling to floor windows (well almost) and sighed waiting for the busses to rush by and kids to say hi to their not-so-long-and-forgotten friends.

Here they come, I thought.

Hundreds on kids rushing to get to class on time. The first kid to get into class was a boy. he had black hair that swept to the left and bright blue eyes, he had freckles and thick frame glasses. I caught myself staring at him and quickly made myself look away.

"Hi..." I heard a loud, yet kind voice say.

I looked in the direction the voice came from.

"Hi," I replied quietly. he smiled and sat in the desk next to me.

"My names Loden, by the way," he told me.

"Maxine, but you can call me Max," I yet again replied.

"Max, nice name," he flirted.

"Thanks," I replied blushing slightly only to brush it off.

The class room soon filled why anxious students, waiting to start.

I, on the other hand, was more interested with what was going on outside and drawing in my note book. I started to draw a raven when Loden looked over at it. the teacher said today would be a free day since she knew we would all have lots to talk about. Loden silently watched me draw and I say very nervously trying to ignore him.

The bell rang and I closed my book and grabbed my bag. I started off for my second class, band. Not your average band I mean with basses and guitars and vocals and drums and the whole shabang. This was going to be a good year.
