Mya walked out of school. The day had gone fairly quickly after lunch. She hopped on the coach that would take her back to Luton. She sat next to a girl called Evie. All the people she had met today were all the same – smiling, overfriendly and talkative. Except those two who I met at lunch. There was something different about them, she thought to herself. What were their names again?
“Dylan and Meg!” She shouted as she remembered.
“What?” replied Evie, confused. Mya had stopped listening to Evie as soon as she had started talking ten minutes ago and just realised she was still going on.
“Oh, er nothing”, She replied and carried on in her own world while Evie chatted away.
Finally, her stop came. Hers was the last. It was dark during the walk home. After all, it was November. Suddenly, she fell. Her head hit the ground with a smack and white light filled her vision. She had been pushed over. That’s weird, she thought, I swear I felt only one finger push me. Just then, a voice whispered in her ear,
“Gimme the key.” It was rough, from the rougher areas of Luton. Mya had no idea what he was on about. Her vision cleared slightly. She couldn’t see clearly, but she could make out a figure standing over her. He was about to swing a punch right at her but he turned as he heard tyres screeching around the corner. Bright yellow light unexpectedly filled her vision. It was car headlights.
A tall figure got out and before she knew it the figure was right next to the man who had attacked her. With his swift movements she could slightly make out the two figures fighting without even seeming to touch each other. Everything seemed to become darker and darker.
Mya woke up to find herself lying down in the back of a car, a warm car, with the inner lights on. She rubbed her eyes and looked out the window, it was pitch black. She had no idea what the time was and began to wonder why she was in the car in the first place and suddenly the memories came flooding back to her. There was a guy asking for a key. What key? My house key? Just then a voice interrupted her thoughts, “How are you feeling Mya?” The voice was smooth, flowing and she could even describe it as charming. She could listen to that voice all day. “Mya?”, it asked again. She looked up to see a man in the front seat. He was tall and had brown hair. It was smoothed back but had a bit of a bounce to it as if it had been gelled up but she could tell it was natural. He was quite handsome, she had to admit, and his eyes were the most mesmerising things she had ever seen. He was wearing a suit without a tie and wore white trainers which stood out on his feet. She replied, “Yeah I’m fine apart from nearly being killed”,
“You get used to it. Even then, it’s one of the best parts of the experience.” he laughed.
“Hang on. Who are you? How did you know my name and what time is it?” The reality of the situation began to sink in. She was in a car with a random man she didn’t know yet somehow she seemed to feel safe and not at any danger.
“First rule, always be observant. Your school bag says Mya on the name label. Being me of course I spotted that straight away.” He smiled.
“Erm… I kinda need to get home now.” Mya realised that it must be pretty late.
“Ah yes well you’ve been out for about 5 minutes so you will probably get home just ten minutes later so nothing to be worried about. See you soon, Mya.”
“See you soon?”
“I’m a friend of your uncles, so naturally I’ll be at his birthday party.”
She quickly walked off, not looking behind again. Her uncle’s birthday bash was at the weekend, at her house. Normally she should be worried but didn’t feel worried, instead felt excited, as if there was an adventure to be had.
