"I can feel her strength. I've never felt anything so strong before. I can feel the energy building up in my watch. After all, my watch picks up anybody with powers and tells me how strong they are." said the boy as he ate his lunch. From his face he looked more of a man than a boy but his height was that of a 17 year old. He was tall and handsome. His dark brown hair was sticking up on end, messy, but it all fell together. He watched her, the new girl, carefully with brown eyes that dreamily matched his hair. It seemed as if his good looks had been magically enhanced somehow but as most people at school knew, or at least thought, magic couldn’t exist. After all, everything revolves around science, right? He was admired by nearly everyone in his year, even though he had been at this school for only two weeks. However he seemed to prefer to sit isolated from every else except the blonde sitting next to him. She joined the school when he did and it seemed like they only talked to each other.  She replied, "We have to approach her." She might've looked like one, but she was definitely not a dumb blonde. The boy knew that well. He could almost see her brain working away, thinking ahead and planning all the possible scenarios.

After a moment or two he wondered in his head.  "What if the single discipline magic she was born with is really strong? I chose to be an ‘Energiser’, but what if she was born a natural teleporter or something? She could have already discovered her powers by now. If not, they might kick in soon."

"Stop worrying you moron." the blonde replied aloud to his thoughts. “They don't just kick in. They first come to you when you want them to or when you summon them. If she has a strong single discipline power and she knew about it, she could have used it when she was two! First, we have to make friends with her. Then we can keep a close eye on her, and after she has gained our trust, she will tell us if she discovers any powers or anything. Maybe, if she doesn't have a strong single discipline magic, she will never know about her powers and she can go along with life normally."

"I dunno. I think it would be cool to train her.  But we can't let her expose it to normals."

"Well, we'll have to approach her soon then."

They finished their lunch and left their table, putting their trays away before they walked on.

Mya was glad to have lunch. She didn’t know that a first day at a new school could be so intense. She hoped that the rest of year 9 wouldn’t be just about choosing GCSE options. All the teachers kept babbling on about it. She had black hair and light brown skin, just like her family. All her new friends had invited her to sit with them, but she had refused. After all, she wasn’t used to being the centre of attention. As she looked up, she saw a boy and a girl walking over in her direction. Please don’t be more people coming to make friends with me, please, please, please she thought in her head. The boy had brown hair and looked slightly older than the blonde. Probably 17 and 16 years old she thought to herself. They came and sat beside her.

“Hey!” said the boy.

“Hiya”, the blonde said, “my name’s Megan Hope. You can call me Meg. This is Dylan Andrews.”

“Hey. I’m Mya Swift. I’m new here. You guys must be in sixth form, seeing as you’re not wearing uniform.”

“Yeah. We are. So… how old are you?” Dylan asked looked as if he didn’t know what to say.

“Thirteen”, she replied, feeling awkward that after just getting away from a crowd of year nines, she was in a conversation with sixth formers!

“Oh cool. How’s your first day?”

“Yeah… it’s alright. I’m getting way too much attention”, Mya tried to hint that they were part of it. Dylan didn’t seem to get the message, or if he did, didn’t show it. Megan however, seemed to get the message as she looked more awkward while looking around. Dylan continued with the conversation,

“I had that when I joined at the beginning of the year. It settles down.”

“Good. I can’t wait till I can sit in the corner with a couple of mates.”

“Yeah, so er… anything out of the ordinary been going on in your life?” Dylan asked, while looking really awkward. “Ouch!” Dylan said while gritting his teeth together and looking at Megan because she had slyly kicked him from under the table.

“Whoops!” Meg laughed, “Just a slip of my leg! Well we’ll see you around, Mya!”

“Bye.” Mya replied, as she watched them leave.

“What were you thinking?” Meg gritted through her teeth as she slammed Dylan against the wall. She looked around. Phew. No-one had seen that, she thought to herself and released him.

“Sorry. I’m not good under pressure.”

“Don’t worry. I don’t think she knows anything yet. I could tell by the way she hesitated.”

“Good,” Dylan looked relieved, “We need to become closer friends with her and keep an eye on her. She can’t disclose magic to everyone. It’s just annoying that we have been put as sixth formers so technically we shouldn’t be talking with someone so much lower down in the school than us.”

“Yeah”, agreed Megan, and with that, they walked off down the corridor.
