Randy laughed, showing his pocket knife. Ben growled and Toby began to twitch. Sophia got up and found her jacket on the floor and picked it up. Jeff looked beyond angry. Sophia put her jacket on,watching Randy with black eyes and walking closer. Her ears were flattened against her skull, and began to growl. Ben and Toby got up as well, glaring at them. "Looks like you're outnumbered," Sophia said quietly. "Go away and never return. I will be watching you." She unsheathed knife-sharp claws and showed them to Randy. "Unless,of course, you've got a problem with that."
Randy glared at all four of them and stepped closer to them. Sophia turned to Jeff. "Dude, shrimp's deaf," Jeff said. She strode over to the beds and pressed a button. "Yes,hello, nurse? We've got a nuisance in Room 321." Her finger left the button, and she smirked. "Too late." She shrugged. Randy yelled and lunged at her,but she sidestepped him. He leaped on her and began punching her mercilessly. She just stared at him.
No crying.
No begging.
No fighting back.
Just…staring.
He stopped for a second before she threw him off of her and showed him sharp white teeth. Randy's cronies ran out, leaving Sophia,Jeff,Ben,and Toby.
And Randy.
"You disgust me," she hissed. "Trying to be cool? Sickening. Get out before I rip you apart." Randy got up and walked to the door, before turning around. "This isn't over."
"You're hella right it ain't."
A few nights later, when Sophia was allowed to go home, she heard a tinkling sound at the window. She opened it and looked down. Jeff,Ben,and Toby were waiting for her.
She leaped off the windowsill and landed perfectly on her feet.
"I give it a 10," Ben joked. Toby twitched.
Sophia unsheathed a single claw and scratched her own wrist, leaving a cut. The same tingle went down her back. Blood wept through the scratch.
Luckily,it was a small cut;it didn't do much harm.
She heard footsteps, and flattened to the ground. "Get down," she hissed, and they all dropped down. "Finally," came a cold feminine voice,"that scrappy retard got something in that thick skull of hers and knew she wasn't normal. Thank God." The footsteps faded into the house, and the truth stabbed her like Randy's knife.
Her biological family didn't hate Sophia.
They loathed her.
She exhaled shakily and got up as everyone else followed suit. A painful silence hung in the air like smoke, and finally,Sophia spoke.
"They loathe me. They won't care if I'm dead or alive. I can't go back;they'll kick me out. So,yeah. Not much of a big deal."
"Not much of a big deal?!" It was Jeff, his voice shrill. "Your parents don't even fucking care about you,and yet you say 'It's not much of a big deal'." Sophia had never heard him curse like that,so he must have been ballistic. She stepped towards him to try and talk to him,but the bruises from her 'unacceptable behaviour'(she was in a bad mood) stopped her in her tracks. She instead curled up on the cold, hard ground and lay there with a huff. "At least you guys are loved," she muttered, not able to control the jealousy in her tone. "Actually,no. My mom loves me,but my dad hates me and tried to drown me," Ben spat. "Same here, except my dad is a total drunkard and makes my mom do all the work. My sister died because of him," Toby muttered. "And he didn't try to kill me."
Sophia hissed angrily and got up,arching her back in a stretch and cautiously walking to the door, knocking on the mahogany wood. Her mother opened the door, took one look at her,and slammed the door in her face. Sophia huffed again and rammed herself into the door.
It wouldn't open.
She sat down, swishing her tail impatiently, and opened her jaw in a caterwaul.
All the windows in the house slammed shut.
She growled.
