I was leaning against the counter holding a ice pack to my cheek while Lucas looked at me.

Me: What?

Lucas: What what?

Me: Your staring.

Lucas: Yea, so? I can't stare now?

I playfully rolled my eyes.

Lucas: You look good, by the way.

I shot him a smile but winced back as the pain sparked up in my cheek.

Me: Thanks.

Lucas: I see yo mom hasn't changed afta two years.

Me: I wish she did.

Lucas: I kno' you do.

Me: So you brought everyone, hm?

Lucas: Yea, I know it was 'posed ta be just me but-

Me: Hey no worries. For one it's not my house and two the same thing happened to me.

He chuckled.

Lucas: So we good?

Me: Yeah, why wouldn't we be?

He shrugged.

Lucas: How's yo cheek?

I sighed and removed the icepack.

Me: It hurts. How does it look?

Lucas: Like someone smacked you.

I playfully smacked his chest.

Lucas: It sorta feels like old times.

Me: How so?

Lucas: Yo mom and you would have an argument, sometimes it got physical but we'd always end up in da kitchen talkin bout er'thang.

I thought about it and nodded with a faint smile on my face so my cheek didn't hurt as bad.
