-Danny's POV-"Are you insane!" I yelled to Steve as I try my best to cover him as he runs straight into the back of the house of Chris Johnson, our lead murder suspect who is actively shooting at us. Chris hears him and runs back into his house, then I hear two gunshots. "Steve!" I scream running inside hoping to god he's alright. I round the corner and see Chris's body on the ground and Steve checking his pulse. "Are you okay?" I asked him with a breath of relief. "I'm fine, Danno, you have to trust me more." He sarcastically remarks. I start to get pissed off. "Trust you? Okay first you're fucking crazy you know, like who on this planet would run directly into someone who is shooting at them. What if I couldn't cover you? What if he shot me right as you ran? What if-" Steve interrupts me, "Danny stop. I'm okay and so are you and we found our suspect, everything is okay." He comes up and hugs me. I gladly accept his hug and sink into him. I don't know what I'd do if he would've gotten hurt, or worse. I try not to think about that as he pulls away. "I'm going to call Max and HPD and let Kono and Chin know Chris is dead, I'll have Kono tell Madison's family." He tells me. "No, I'll go tell Madison's family and meet you back at the office." I say while turning away. "Hey hang on," He says while grabbing my arm. "I'll meet you back at my place, and I'll grab us some dinner, sound good?" Steve offers. "Sure, I'll see you soon." I respond while tugging away and getting in my car to drive away.
I contemplate Steve and I's relationship as I'm driving to Madison's family's house. We've been dating in secret for a little over a month now. We haven't told anyone else, but I want to tell the team. Steve says we should hold off on telling everyone for a little longer, and I agreed because I enjoy seeing him happy. I love that man. I think back to when we met.
As I pull up to my victim, John McGarrett's, house to investigate his murder, I see a truck parked. I get out quickly and draw my gun, knowing that nobody else should be here. I quickly make my way to the partially open door that led to the garage. I heard someone rummaging around, and put my back to the door. I counted to three in my head, and kicked the door open, aiming my gun at the man I saw in the room. "Hands in the air now!" We both yelled at the same time. Noticing he had a gun too, I held my ground. "What is your name!" He yelled. "Detective Danny Williams, now who the hell are you?" I yelled back. "Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett, show me your ID!" he demanded. "No, you show me your ID." I replied back. "I'm not putting my gun down." He said trying to intimidate me. "Well neither am I." I said while keeping my position. "At the same time then?" Was this guy crazy? "What like on the count of three?" I questioned."Yep." He annoyingly remarks. "Fine." I reluctantly agreed. "One, two, three." We both say in unison while presenting our ID's to each other. So this guy was for real.
-Present Time-
I snap out of it as I get closer to Madison's mom's house. I start to get anxious about what I'm going to say, even though it's good news. Madison was our victim. She was murdered by who we figured out was Chris. I'm on my way to tell her mom we found her killer, but even though we caught him, she's still dead. Does it really even matter? Of course it does, why am I thinking like this. If Grace was murdered, god forbid, I'd want to know that her killer was found. I reach her house. I park in her driveway and walk up to her door, then knock.
-Steve's POV-
I set the pizza boxes in the oven to stay warm while I waited for Danny to get back. I made a comfy spot on the couch for us and put the TV remote on the table for Danny to find us something to watch while we ate. I sat down and thought about Danny. He wants to tell Chin and Kono about us, I really think we should wait. I love him and of course I want to be with him forever, but you never know what could happen. I just want him to be happy.
"I hate paperwork." I thought to myself. I look up and see Danny walking towards my office. I told everyone to go home early today, why is he here? I've had feelings for him ever since we met, but I don't know how to tell him. His daughter Grace is his whole life, I don't know that he is even looking for someone. As Danny walks in, he is noticeably upset, and looks like he is about to cry. "Danny what's wrong?" I worriedly ask and get up to sit next to him on my couch in my office. "Steve I have to tell you something, okay?" Danny says with a shaky voice. "Of course man, you can tell me anything." I reply honestly. He hesitates for a bit, and I give him the time he needs. "I'm going to leave Five-O, I'm sorry." He says while looking at the floor. I pause for a minute and think. Why would he want to leave? He can't leave, I don't want him to leave. I stand up and walk over to the wall while thinking. Did he find a better job? Is he leaving Hawaii? Is it because I did something wrong? "I'll have my things out by tonight." He says snapping me out of my thoughts. He starts to get up. "Hang on, why are you leaving? Was it something I did? Or Kono or Chin?" A million thoughts ran through my head. "No, nobody did anything wrong, it's actually me, Steve." He said, sitting back down. "What do you mean? You can tell me." I said, sitting next to him, a bit closer this time. He nervously rubs the back of his neck, then stands up and walks to the other side of the room. He stops and puts his hands in his pockets and looks down with his eyes closed. "I have feelings for you, Steve." He whispers. My heart skips a beat. I swear I heard that wrong. Before I can even react, he immediately turns around to look at me, I can see that he's crying, and he rushes out, "But you're my boss and that's not okay and i'm sure you don't even feel the same and I shouldn't have even told you and I'm sorry and now you probably want nothing to do with me and-" I get up and walk over to him and interrupt him by hugging him. He stiffens for a minute, then hugs me back tightly and puts his face into my shirt continuing to cry. "Hey," I whisper, "It's okay, Danny. I could never hate you. I have felt the same way about you since the day we met." He pulls away and looks up at me. "You have?" He says with a sniffle. I wipe away a tear on his face. I looked into his eyes and leaned in to kiss him. He immediately kissed back, and after a moment I pulled away. "Of course I have." I whispered.
-Present Time-
I'm interrupted by my flashback when I hear the door open, it was Danny. "Hey, how'd it go?" I ask him while walking over to him. "It was okay, her mom was glad to know we caught her daughter's killer, she cried a bit and I held her, then she walked me out." He said while walking by me. I'm starting to get the hint that he's upset at me. "Did I do something, or?" I question while following him to the kitchen. "No, everything's fine. What'd you get for dinner?" Danny said with an irritated tone to his voice. "Don't avoid me, talk to me." I say while walking up to him and holding his waist. He crosses his arms and looks down. "Don't pout, just talk to me." I say, trying to get him to talk. He hesitantly replies, "I just hate seeing you run into danger. You make me worry so much sometimes, I can't stand the thought of you getting injured." He started to get tears in his eyes. "Hey, I'm not going anywhere. I'm so sorry I made you worry, it's just my instincts. I'm sorry for what I did today, can your forgive me?" I asked him. He looked up at me. "I hate your instincts, but yes." He said while starting to smile. I leaned down and gave him a quick kiss. "I have pizza in the oven. I'll get it out if you want to find something for us to watch?" I asked him. "Okay babe." Danny said while walking towards the couch. I smiled and got brought the pizzas over to the table. I sat down by Danny and we enjoyed the rest of our night.
