Hadley's POV
"LERWICK! GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE." Kyle yelled at me from across the gym. He's always so harsh to me. I think it's mainly because I'm the only girl on our schools wrestling team.
"Oh, shut your shithole, Harries." I said as I slipped off my shoes.
"I think you mean my face." He scowled.
"No, I meant what I said." I said and laughed as I ran towards the coach.
"You're late for practice." Coach McMahan said as I approached him.
"I know, coach. But we weren't supposed to have practice today. Because-" I said as I nodded my head toward the dress and heels that were siting in a chair, as I has just changed into my shorts and t shirt that I always wear to practice.
"Prom is for sissies." Kyle pointed out.
"Shut up, Harries. Everyone knows you secretly wanted to go to prom!" I shouted at him and the coach stopped us.
"QUIET!" Coach yelled.
"WHY are you two the ONLY people that showed up?!" He continued.
"Because that stupid dance is going on." I explained.
"But I thought you went." Kyle pointed out.
"I was forced to go. I can't help that my mother wants to turn me into some stupid Barbie and dress me in some fluffy dress and heels. Gosh." I said and crossed my arms.
"Just fight." Coach demanded.
"We are." I said in a smarty-pants tone.
"No. You know what I mean, Lerwick." He scolded.
"Alright." I said and began to wrestle with Kyle.
----4 hours later----
"Coach McMahan, it's midnight already, and I've won all matches. And I am drenched in sweat. I am BEGGING you. PLEASE, can I just home." I begged.
"Fine." He said and I sighed in relief.
"Thank you." I said and gathered my stuff. I put my dress and heels in my backpack and walked towards the exit and began to walk home.
Suddenly, I hear footsteps behind me.
"Hello." A male voice said.
I tried my best to avoid him at all costs, but he kept repeating it.
"Ugh. Hi." I finally gave in.
"I want to take you somewhere." The voice said.
"I don't know you, I don't trust you." I said. As I walked, my red hair bounced.
"Fine. I only wanted to show you something. You and I used to know each other in preschool. Then I had to leave." The voice said, obviously following me.
"There's only one.. Well.. Three people that were my best friends in preschool and left in kindergarten. And they are not you. And I will not turn around because you'll probably be some perv." I said angrily as I walked faster.
"You're in a bit of a mood, don't ya think?" He said, still following me.
"Well, gee. I'm being followed by a stranger. I guess I am in a bit of a mood." I said sarcastically.
"Just.." He started but stopped.
Eventually I got home and ran into the living room. I laid on the couch and turned on the TV, but turned down the volume so I wouldn't wake my mother. I watched a bit of some show on Teen Nick, but I quickly fell asleep.
-----The next day-----
As soon as I woke up, I shot my eyes open. Mum was bent over watching me.
"Prom or Wrestling Team?" Mum asked, obviously realising I was late home last night.
"Wrestling team." I answered.
"Ah, I see." She said and nodded. I went upstairs to my room, got dressed and brushed my hair, then I went to school.
"Hey, Lerwick. You're a bitch. You know that." Kyle said as I walked through the halls and past him.
I made sure no one was looking, and I quickly flipped the bird at him before running to class.
----after school----
Instead of walking home from school, I walked to an abandoned old building. It used to be a place where people in my hometown boxed. It still has the boxing ring, and the punching bags, old boxing gloves, training equipment, that kind of stuff. I normally went here after school.
Once I got there, I slipped on a pair of the boxing gloves and headed straight for the punching bags.
Suddenly I heard someone behind me.
"Hello again." I heard someone say. Oh man, it's that idiot from last night. With my ninja-like reflexes I spun around on my heel and punched him right in the face.
"Ouch! What was that for?" He asked, covering his nose from where I'd punched him.
"Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry. Are... Are you okay?" I asked quickly realising what I did.
"I'm fine, really." He said and nodded.
"You positive about that?" I asked and he nodded again.
"Absolutely positively positive. No where near negative." He said. It reminded me of a long time ago when I had a best friend in pre school.
"Hellllooo? Hadley?" The guy said.
"Huh? How do you know my name?" I asked after I snapped out of a flashback.
"Because, I told you, we were best friends in pre-school." He said and I gasped.
"Toby?!" I screeched.
"Yup. There goes the inner-girl in you, wanting to be set free instead of trapped in a tomboy body." Toby said.
"I haven't seen you in so long I almost didn't recognise you!" I said and hugged him tightly.
Slowly pulling away, I thought of something.
"How'd you know I'd be here?" I asked.
"Everyone knows you're into fighting. Whether it's boxing or wrestling, you're in." He said and I nodded.
"I see." I said and took of my gloves. I grabbed another pair and tossed them to him, and put mine back on. I nodded my head towards the ring.
"What? We're going to fight? No, Hads, we can't. I mean I can't." He said and I laughed.
"Let me guess, you don't want to fight a girl? Too bad. Get over here, you big sissy." I said after getting in the ring.
"Oh it's on." He said and got in too.
"No letting me win." I said and smirked.
"Ok." He said and I looked at him weirdly.
"Promise?" I asked.
He nodded.
"Promise." He answered.
We boxed almost all day, and we had fun doing so. I hope to do it again sometime.
