I was pulling my shirt over my head when Buffy walked into my room. "Hey, Pike you almost ready?" It's been six months since the shock of finding out we were half-siblings, but thankfully nothing is really weird between us anymore. Yeah, I kissed my sister, but Buffy and I just decided to pretend it never happened and move on. Kind of like what we've been doing with the whole 'our mother put Buffy in a mental hospital' thing.

"Yeah, are we taking my bike?" I ask her as I sit on my bed to pull my shoes on.

"No, mom wants to drive us."

"That means she's going to give us a speech." I told her as I lace my boots up.

"PIke, this is a fresh start for the both of us, please try and behave." I roll my eyes and grab my bag.

"You sound like mom and I already promised I'd try and make this work." I'm a year older than Buffy, but because of how badly I did in school after my dad's death I am being held back a year to catch up.

Buffy gives me an exasperated look, but I just give her one in return. "Let's go." Buffy sighs, grabbing my hand and leading me out of my room and down the stairs.

"Buffy! Oliver!"

"We're coming!" Buffy calls as I roll my eyes.

"Doesn't she get I hate being called Oliver."

"What you want her to call you by your last name? No offense, Pike, but that's a little weird for our mom."

"Think of it this way. I am honoring my father." Buffy sighs and looks at me.

"You can make everyone, but mom call you Pike. It's too weird for mom and... we really need to work with mom, okay? Mom needs just as much of a normal life as she can get too."

"I don't know how we can do normally when you are a slayer and I am pyrokinetic."

"No, Pike, no more talk about any of that. We're going to be normal." She still believes she can run away from her destiny, but instead of getting her upset I just nod.

"You don't want to be late for your first day." We hear our mother say, causing Buffy and me to look at one another.

"Of course we don't." Buffy sighs.

"Wouldn't want that." I agreed as we hurried downstairs for a quick breakfast before we head to the school. "We could have just taken my bike, mom." I tell her as we drive down the road.

"That thing is a death trap, Oliver. I don't want you driving that crazy thing."

"Mom," I sigh as I look at her. "Our fate had been decided the moment we were born. If I am supposed to die today then not driving my bike won't change that."

"Don't talk like that, Oliver." She says as her eyes plead with me.

"Fine, but I am always careful on my bike anyways, no worries."

"Oliver-"

"Just trust me, mom, please."

"I do trust you-"

"Then trust that I can drive my bike on my own without any problem." She sighs and pulls up in front of the school.

"Okay." Buffy and I grab our things and start out of the car. "Have a good time."

"Mom-"

"We will." Buffy says as she covers my mouth.

"I know you will make friends right off the bat." I give a look at Buffy as she still refuses to let me speak.
