PART ONE:

“I couldn’t let him be punished for the crime of loving me beyond all of him. I’d protect him even if I’d have to give up everything, including my heart.”

February 2012: Healing Camp Episode

G-Dragon: I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t meet anyone. But when I do, I try to do it in secret because it can really cause harm to the other person.

MC Kim Jae Dong: By saying it would cause harm to the other person, are you saying that this person is also someone in the industry?

G-Dragon: That’s something only I know.

Ji-Young’s answer brought a sudden twinge in Dara’s heart. Strange. She couldn’t recall feeling such pang before, not even once. She always felt secured about their relationship no matter how hard they had to keep it from the world. She didn’t easily get distracted over rumors and issues thrown at his dating relationships, not even his well-acknowledged romantic scandal with Japanese model Mizuhara Kiko. She knew where she stood in his life. She always had her rightful place in the deepest depths of his heart that no mortal or other goddess could literally and possibly replace. She was his Queen. . . His Star. . . His Butterfly. . . His Sweet Medusa. . . His baby girl.

She was his as he was hers.

And though they were acting as no more than label mates and normal friends before the prying eyes of the public, she was confident that their love was as real as the air she breathed.

Her dating ban would soon be lifted a little less three months from now and as she always confessed on interviews she was truthfully ecstatic about it, not because she was certain to have a handsome triple-pile boyfriend selection, nor the good chances of hooking up with her idol crushes. If truth be told, she couldn’t care less about Kang Dong Woon or Won Bin oppa or Minho1 and Minho2 or however-many-Minhos there are in the planet. She never seriously fancied ‘em. It was all a facade, her part of the protection bargain she came along with since hewas doing everything hecould to keep their affair a secret. It was her own diversion to stash suspicions away from their true relationship that’s being gradually deciphered and exposed thanks to Applers’ genius and ridiculously impressive pointed investigations. (Of course she knew about Applers. She had read all their DARAGON threads, as they fondly labeled Ji-Young and her. Truth was she‘s an Appler herself. *wink*)

She was ecstatic only and only because she knew theycould finally get out of their love closet and let the world and the whole of the universe know about their painstakingly veiled romance, for no contract would forbid them anymore, on her end at least.

But why, as she watched himaddressing hisdating rumors on Healing Camp, was she feeling worried hearing him say that only heknew if he’sdating someone from the same industry or not?

She knew he wasonly saying it to protect her. She saw no harm in his words before. Not until now. Not until she realized the complications of its meaning. Suddenly, she found herself asking questions.

What if?

What if it was indeed something that only he and she would forever know?

What if they still couldn’t reveal themselves even after her dating ban? Would they survive their love and still be happy hiding in the shadows?

And if they could, what if people couldn’t embrace them as an item simply because they couldn’t understand why they had to keep it from them in all those years?

What if they wouldn’t approve of them as a couple?

What if they’d feel betrayed and distrusted by both of them?

What if Ji-Young’s fan girls hated her for stealing his heart? What would happen to 2NE1? She couldn’t let Bommie, CL-roo and Mingkki take the consequences of her doings. They still had promising future ahead of them. They were her sisters. She loved every bit of ‘em with every single strand of her apple hair.

What if everything went wrong after their confessions? What would happen to BIGBANG? Daesung had suffered more than enough due to his car accident. She couldn’t let him get through that torture again. Young Bae-ah didn’t deserve another heartbreak, not after she unconsciously turned him down on national broadcast, tactlessly telling everyone on her Strong Heart guesting that they weren’t meant to be. Neither could she upset Choi Seung-Hyun without upsetting Bommie. They were, after all, the real alien couple. And Seung-Ri, her dearest panda Riri? There was no way she would cause her pet dongsaeng such pain.

What about President YG? Surely every bit of negative response would dart back straight to sajang-nim. He’d take all the blame as the head of their YG family. Inevitably, the other family members would be affected as much in one way or another.

And how about her dongsaeng dog poop? He’d be dragged along with her for her pain was his too. He’d literally take ten bombs in her defense, wouldn’t he? Noona must protect Cheondoong agi!

And alas! The question that she feared the more to ask but feared the most to answer.

Whatever would happen to Ji-young... her sweet chic Ji-young?

Among BIGBANG, he was the one who’d been misjudged the most, from plagiarism accusations to bad role model images to drug scandals. Netizens said bad things about him only because they could. Being BIGBANG’s responsible leader G-Dragon, Ji-young needed to be a pillar of strength and the main trunk that held the BIGBANG tree, as YG described them, in one piece.

He’d been brutally and unfairly treated for being a music Einstein. Sure he was coping up fine but she knew better. He may seem all smug and composed on the surface but she knew how pained he was inside. She should have known. Wasn’t she with him at all times? She knew Ji-Young like the back of her hand. He was way too far from breaking down but a trunk, no matter how sturdy it was, could still be taken down by a powerful blow and she didn’t want to be the axe that would cut him down.

She didn’t want to be his downfall.

He’d been protecting her from day one while loving her every second of everyday for almost eight years now. She was yet to figure out how he did it the way he did but she loved him all the more because of that.

And Dara knew it was time for her to do the same. Now she’d be the one to protect Ji-Young. This time she’d protect him whatever it may cost her.

She couldn’t let him be punished when his only crime was to love her beyond all of him.

She’d protect him even if she’d have to give up everything.

Her happiness.

Her dreams.

Her life.

Even her heart.
