"You're so ugly! I can't believe you would dare to like him! You don't deserve him!"

Those words echoed back as I recounted the events that occurred today.

Tired of crying on my bed for the past few hours, I gave up and decided to do something more productive instead of just crying around.

I sneaked out through my backyard and escaped with my classmates' voices still audible outside of the house. Sprinting through the dark, I reached my hiding spot for nights like this and opened my backpack, which contained my necessities: phone, water, snacks, and book. I pulled out my book, laid on the grass, and turned my music to the perfect volume where I could still hear the cicadas and the outside world. Jason, the name of the character, was the perfect gentleman any girl could dream of. He had soft blue eyes that you knew you could trust with any secret, wild blonde hair perfectly trimmed, and the sweetest dimple to complement his face. In the novel, he was a misunderstood teenager whom everyone adored but never tried to understand. He was surrounded by people who threw themselves at him due to his popularity, but they didn't care about the things that mattered like how much love and dedication he was capable of and how smart and accurate he was in school and in rooting out the people who were his real friends.

"If only you were real, I would love to be your friend." I said out loud to the sky.

"Well, I would love to be your friend too."

Immediately, I jumped up to find that it was Jason from my book but now in flesh and blood right in front of me.

"How-? I-what-how?" I muttered in disbelief.

"Dreams do come true to the ones who deserve them. Besides, I need a friend too."

He smiled at the sight of my disheveled state and laid down on the grass next to the spot I was laying down on. Once I regained my sanity, I laid down next to him.

"I wish people could look on the inside and understand that we're just like them," I said as we stared at the stars.

"I think you're different from them. You don't look at the superficial appearance, but you care about what's on the inside," he continued, "You're beautiful on the outside, but inside, you're even more radiant than all the stars in the sky," he whispered as he stared at me.

He suddenly stood up and pulled me to him. We started dancing to "Only You" by Selena Gomez.

"I love you." I said as I stared up into his eyes which were brighter than the stars in the sky.

He bent down to kiss me, and in that moment, our longing for love was fulfilled by each other like two pieces of a broken star that finally came together: mine by the beloved fictional character and his by a girl whom reality despised.
