Zayn Malik
Stupid, sunny weather.
I have been inside for two weeks waiting for that little bit of rain to come. The splotch of grey clouds, and a sprinkle of rain to emerge. Texting each other isn't enough to fill the void of emptiness I feel without Summer. Ha, Summer. I still find it weird how her name is Summer, yet she loves the rain so much. It is unique.
Is it strange that I feel a strong connection towards this young woman, even though I only met her once, and that we only text rarely (because of university study). It just isn't enough contact.
I imagine her right now, in that silly puddle, why? Why would she like the rain, like, like it that much to just sit there and basically sunbathe (except not in the sun). Her blonde hair would be all straggly and stuck to her face, but she would have the most brightest smile in the world. Her eyes squinted, face up to the clouds, and her teeth showing, cheeks glowing red from the pelting cold rain. Is it bad that I have already memorised every feature of her damned body and face even though I have only seen her once in my life?
Pulling my phone out, I look through my contacts list and stare at her number under the title "Summer ☁ ☔ ⛄ ⚡ 😍 ".
Hesitantly, I click onto the 'message' symbol and type down "Hey, can we just meet up now, I can't wait this long!!".
Instantly, she messages back. "Sorry Malik, you know the rules ;) ".
She is making me desperate.
What is happening to me? What has she done to me?
I need to see her again, now.
....2 days later....
I awake as soon as I hear the pitter-patter of the rain on the roof. I don't care if it is one o'clock in the morning, I need to see her.
I have a feeling I am getting a bit too excited.
Without thinking, I run out of the grey apartment with no umbrella and just my pyjamas into the pouring rain, phone in-hand.
"Where do ya wanna meet?" I text her, my shirt soaking through.
She answers immediately, "cafe around the corner of your apartment?".
I know exactly where that is. Starting off at a slow jog, I gradually go to a run towards the footpath and down it's cobbled tiles towards the soft lights of the 24/7 running cafe. I can smell the pastries and coffee scents from here. It is comforting.
When I reach the shop, I am enveloped by a warm aroma and surrounded by beautiful scents. I go straight to the counter and order a normal coffee, then sit at a table booth right next to the window and wait.
~*~*~
I didn't even realise I fell asleep face first on the table, until a waitress shook my shoulders, waking me. I jolt up and scan the room quickly, only to not find the person who I was looking for. I can't help the feeling of disappointment plummet into my stomach.
"How long have I been here?" I ask the girl who woke me, while rubbing my eyes and yawning.
"2 hours sir. Are you waiting for someone?" She asks. Wow. Two hours, where is she?
"Yeah, I was waiting for someone. I guess they cancelled." A sigh escapes me and I just feel downright depressed. I guess I got stood up. This sucks.
"Do you want anything else sir?"
"No thanks, I think I will just-" My throat goes dry instantly. I can't even finish my sentence.
In struts Summer, all soaking wet, and as vibrant as ever. How is that even possible that she can light up an extremely dark morning? That sounded so fucking cheesy.
"Sorry I'm late.... I got... busy." She smiles shyly at me. I already know what that means, she was outside in the rain again. This chick is weird, but I can't help but feel interested in her.
"It's okay, do you want a coffee, or tea, or anything?" I ramble on, stumbling over my words like an idiot because of her beauty. She is turning me into a wimp. Her clothes and hair are stuck to her but her bright blue eyes are so intrigueing and her lips have turned a deep pink because of the cold.
"Could I please have a scone?" She smiles at me, rubbing her hands together.
"Sure" I smile back at her. I walk back to the counter and buy her the scone, since it is already made and then set the plate in front of her. I know it's weird, but I watch as she eats the food. I find it cute for some reason.
"Thankyou." She says with her mouth full, a smile still on her face.
"You're welcome." I say, my smile still there as well.
Suddenly, she gets up from her seat.
I panic and make a scraping noise as I get out of my chair. "Wha, what? Wait? What are you doing? Where are you going?" I stutter, not wanting her to leave me already.
She gives a little laugh. "You didn't actually think I would stay inside when it's raining?" She replies, an amused look on her face.
Oh.
I stumble from my chair, and open the door for her. I am like her slave, she can take so much advantage of that.
She smiles shyly at me and walks with her arms crossed out into the pouring atmosphere. She spins around, a smile on her face and laughing like a maniac. I just stare at her in awe.
"Come on out! It's wonderful!" She stops spinning and shouts to me. Her hair has gone straggly and stuck to her face again, her eyes are squinting and she has the most beautiful smile on her face.
It takes me a while to come to, but I finally run out into the rain with her. Screaming and yelling and spinning in the empty street in the rain. I would have never done this before in my life.
Summer screams with me in excitement and grabs my hands so that she can make us spin around. After a long time of spinning, we start to do weird dances, our hands still clasped together. Feet stomping in the puddles, raindrops on our rosy cheeks, laughing really loud and smiles so bright.
I take a second to just look at her as she dances in the rain with me. Wow, she is so beautiful, and weird, and funny, and just interesting to be around.
Without thinking, I pull her towards me, spinning her in the process, and press my lips to hers.
She is shocked at first but then soon our lips are moving in sync. I leave her hands for a moment to carress her face then slide them back to the place they were before, intertwined with hers.
"Woah," She puffs out, our foreheads resting against each others.
"Woah," I agree. Puffs of my breath blow into her face, like small white clouds. We look each other in the eyes for a while, our foreheads still resting against anothers, but that only lasts a second because she gets shy and her eyes flicker down to our feet in the murky water below. We are still intertwined with one another though so that is a good sign.
Her eyes flicker backwards and fowards to me and our shoes. "I- I barely know you Zayn." She sighs.
"What's wrong with a little mystery?" I smirk.
