The group huddled in the corner. Trying to comfort each other, but without success.

“I-it’ll be o-okay, we’ll find Star.” Ash said, more to herself then to her companions.

“Sure, it’ll all be okay. Nothing wrong happened. Someone just took all the kittens for a midnight stroll.” Tiger said, sarcastically. “ Seriously. Get a  grip on yourselves. The only way we can help the kittens is to remain CALM!!”

Raven stood up, “ You’re right. Come on, girls. Let’s go track a thief.”

With that, the four cats slipped through the crowd out into the cold crisp autumn air.

“Let me go!” a squeaky voice called into the darkness.

Her paws were hurting and she was penned up in a cage of boulders pressed tightly together.

“My friends and family will find me!” the voice called again.

“Oh, Star,” a silky, soft voice replied. “Your ‘family’ doesn’t know where you are. They will spend so much time wondering where you are that by the time they realize what happened, my trail will have gone cold.”

The second voice laughed an evil laugh and walked away, out of sight.

Star cowered in the corner. She didn’t want the white cat to know that deep down inside of her, even if she wouldn’t admit it, was the fear and doubt that the she-cat was right.

The group of renegades crawled silently through the forest. Snow in front since she had the best nose. Next to her was Tiger, the keenest eye-sight. Raven and Ash brought up the rear. They quickly came to a clearing. Here, Tiger said, was where the pawprints ended. Ash, being a bit smarter than the others suggested that they may have climbed the tree. The four spread out to the closest trees. Putting their paws in every nook, cranny, and knot. Suddenly, an orange and yellow cat stepped into the clearing.

“Greetings, I am Sun. Leader of the Stars. What are you searching for?”

The group looked at each other.

“We are looking for a place to rest.” Ash said.

Tiger turned to her. Looking confused, she said “Um . . .  OH!! Right!!! We have traveled a long, long distance. HELP ME!!! I mean HELP US!!”

Sun looked at her like she was demented. “Follow me. I will give you a place to rest.”

With that, he slipped into the darkness. The remaining felines looked at each other and followed, hoping for the best.
