Gentle breeze was blowing through the night, ruffling your hair. Your sleepwear provided little protection from the cold but you didn't mind. How could you be disturbed by something so trivial when there was perfectly clear starry sky above you, each of the little dots shining brightly like diamonds. It was magical night, silent and peaceful. No traffic, no voices on the streets. As if everyone except for you was asleep. You were leaning against the railing of apartment's balcony. While everything was enveloped with calmness, your mind certainly was not. It was replaying memories nonstop, occasionally throwing in some of your deepest fears. This mix of unpleasantness made you anxious enough to make you restless, unable to fall asleep. There was nothing you could do but hope the feeling will soon fade or that your body will get so exhausted it will ignore your unease.
Before any of that could happen though, you heard quiet footsteps. So he found you, you smiled to yourself. A pair of arms snaked around your waist, a little warning before his full weight dropped on you gently. This was his style of revenge on you for waking him up. You didn't understand how he did it but he always noticed without a fail when you were absent from bed. "Come to bed," he muttered into the space between your shoulder blades. You removed one of your hands from the railing to lay it on top of his. "I'll come soon darling, I promise," you were stroking his forearm slowly, calming him. You knew how worried he could get if you were not near when he woke up. A quiet hum was his only response as he was enjoying your touch. For a while everything was quiet again, his breathing barely noticeable. You weren't sure if he was asleep or not, neither of the possibilities would surprise you. Suddenly he let out a yawn, proving the latter to be the truth. "Why can't you sleep?" He asked, still only half awake but concern was obvious in his voice. This didn't surprise you either, you were just as heavy sleeper as he was, it was only rational to think something was wrong. "I'm just thinking about stuff, don't worry," you answered more calmly than you actually felt, squeezing his hand lightly. You knew he would continue asking until he figured out what the problem was but still hoped that tonight he'd just let it go. "Is it about this morning?" He turned his face so his voice wasn't muffled by your body anymore. To your surprise there wasn't even a hint of annoyance like you suspected would be the case. You let the silence answer in your place. He sighed and turned both of you around, him now leaning on the railing with his back and you flush against his chest, looking into his black, very tired eyes.
True to be told, this morning was probably the trigger that caused all this. You've felt your anxiety getting worse for about a week now and you knew Shouta noticed. You assured him it was alright, he let it be then since it wasn't as bad as to interfere with your everyday life and you promised him you'll take care of yourself. Then he didn't come home last night, didn't even send you a text and you were not able to reach him through his phone. Your anxiety took the better of you and instead of trying to call his colleagues, you spent the whole night crying, walking in circles and watching the hands on the clock moving, feeling your sanity leaving you. Then, around six in the morning, he finally showed up to get ready for work. You had a huge fight if it could be called that, since you did most of the talking, screaming even. He did apologize and explained the situation to you, he had been so exhausted he doubted he would make it home without passing out so he stayed over at Hizashi's place, but it didn't calm your anger. Moreover, you didn't get the chance to talk calmly about what happened until late at night when he came from work and then you just quickly apologized since you were both ready to hit the hay.
Now it only made you feel worse. This is exactly why you always tried to talk things through under any circumstances. "I'm so sorry, Shouta," you cupped his cheek, "I shouldn't have taken my anxiety out on you." You stroked his cheekbone gently. He shook his head and pulled you close, one arm around your waist and the second between your shoulder blades. "It's alright, I was an ass for not texting," he kissed the top of your head. You hummed and breathed in his scent. Some people have blankets to calm them, you had Shouta. The warmth of his body helped you focus and think clearly. With him, you were safe. "What got you so worried lately?" He asked, rubbing the small of your back in comforting circles. He let you pull away just enough to be able to look at him. There was concern hidden in his gaze but you knew him long enough to notice. You raised your hand again, this time to play with his messy hair, watching how the little curls hugged your fingers. You needed a while to think through what you were going to say. "I'm just worried," you sighed, there was just no way you could manage to organize everything that was on your mind into neat sentences. "Ever since the criminality raised and you are on the patrols more often I just can't stay calm until you come home. I'm sorry, I know it's not rational," you scratched your nape. "And then the USJ attack, the camp and...," you trailed off exasperatedly. You didn't want to think about any of these. The scar made you flinch a bit every time you saw it. You brought your hand up to his face and dragged your fingers over the rough skin. "I just don't want to lose you," you whispered, "sorry, I'm so childish." You buried your face into his chest and he used this opportunity to stroke your hair, lightly massaging your scalp. Your breathing was fast as it always was when the emotions got the better of you.
He gave you time to calm down again, still gently caressing your back and hair. He realized soon after you started dating that it was important for you to be calm when dealing with serious manners, so he waited for your breathing to slow down before talking. "It's not childish, there's no reason for you to apologize," he assured you, his voice kind. You wondered if he ever spoke like that to anyone else. "I understand why you're worried, hell if that Nomu thing hurt you like he did to me, you wouldn't be allowed to leave the house," he was serious and you knew it but it still made you chuckle. You turned your head to side, his heart right under your ear. It was beating faster than usual. "I know you're hero and all, but wouldn't it be fair for you to also stay home more then?" You piped in quietly, playing with the hem of his shirt. His hold got slightly stronger, pulling you close enough for him to kiss your temple. "I can't and you know it, [y/n]," he said almost apologetically. "I want to make sure you're safe, that the streets are safe for you and everyone else. Every hero is needed if we want to stabilize the situations at least a bit." You of course knew it was true. The news talked every day about the rising crime wave, sure they needed every hero possible to patrol the streets. Shouta was strong, his quirk as well, he was truly a hero but he was your boyfriend and you couldn't imagine what would you do if something was to happen to him, something worse than at the USJ.
Still, this situation needed a solution that would calm you and if nothing else, he wouldn't mind. It wasn't easy to live with hero but for Shouta, you'd try your best to think of something. "Couldn't you at least work during the day? I might feel better," you snuggled closer, already knowing the answer. "My job at U.A., [y/n]," he reminded you, of course he would. "It's not like the principal can shift all of my lessons to the afternoon. And unfortunately, they all have potential so I can't kick them out," there was a hint of irritation about this fact. You chuckled, it was so very like him. You hoped the students realized that their teacher was the best of all. "Then maybe a sidekick?" You suggested but his annoyed groan was enough for an answer. "And like, another hero? Or a group?" The hope in your voice was killing him. He knew you were trying to come up with a solution but he wasn't sure if there was one. He sighed and cupped your cheek so you'd look up at him. "How many friends I have?" You laughed a bit and hung your head in defeat. He chuckled as well, again pulling you close. He had to admit that he didn't consider this but it was no good there was nobody who'd willingly spend time with him and whom he could tolerate. "Mic!" You suddenly jumped, almost hitting his chin with your head. "You have Mic! I'm sure he wouldn't mind teaming up with you," you smiled at him, ignoring the annoyed twitching of his eyebrow. "No." He said simply. "I can't work with him, he's so obnoxious." You pouted at him, getting a soft kiss instead of instant agreement but you decided you didn't mind. "Yet you're still friends," you pointed out with a smile, "besides your quirks could work wel-" you didn't have a chance to finish since your boyfriend attacked you with a flood of kisses to silence you. You were pushing him away lightly, giggling the whole time. Finally he grabbed your hands and pecked your lips. He didn't move away but let his forehead rest against yours instead. "But really, try it please? It doesn't have to be forever, just till the situations calm somewhat?" You were giving him your best puppy-eyed (more like kitty-eyed) look. He sighed deeply and stayed quiet, his eyes closed. You let him think about it without saying a word, your stomach twisted with nervousness. He'd told you that they worked together before so maybe he'd agree for old time's sake? You hoped he would. Meanwhile he was going through every awkward joke that Mic made and how much the man annoyed him.
In the end he did agree for you sake. His whole face was screaming irritation in advance as he told you his decision. You genuinely smiled and jumped at him, your arms around his neck and legs wrapped around his waist. "Thank you," you nuzzled into his neck. He hugged you with a little smile. He'd probably do anything for you, although he did hope that by some miracle the world would become villainless during the next few hours. He wasn't sure if he could really do it. "Let's get back to sleep now, alright?" He asked and yawned. You gave him a small nod. You felt so relieved and happy. Of course it didn't mean that Shouta would be safe but it made you feel a bit better. With that solved, you felt your eyelids getting heavy and mind quiet. He laid you down on your bed and soon joined you under the covers, laying on his side, facing you. "Will you hold me please?" You asked sheepishly, snuggling to his body. He was always so warm, you wondered if the energy from his naps was all transformed into the warmth. That would explain his constant exhaustion. Instead of answering, he simply put his arms around you and intertwined your legs. "Good night, babe," he whispered, kissing you deeply, gently but the kiss carried also a message of "everything will be alright". "Sleep well, I love you," you whispered and a smile stretched on your face when you felt his fingers writing an answer on your back.
