Most people describe me as a beach girl. Long blonde hair, blue eyes, sandy feet and tanned skin. Everything about the beach is beautiful, the way the sand makes noises as it softens under the ball of your foot, the way the sound of crashing waves are infinite and most of all just relaxing in the waves and occasionally getting dumped then going out again just to get dumped a couple more times. The beach is one of my many favourite things and coming second would have to be art.
I sat with a blank sheet of paper in one hand and a light pencil in the other, seeking a beautiful scene to escape into. The lighthouse stood tall in the distance with little waves crashing against it creating a beautiful picture and so I decided that would be a perfect start.
I let my pencil guide me as soft strokes of grey emerged on my page, shading some areas dark and leaving others light. I was in the middle of a stroke when I felt a sort tap on my shoulder. Not mum I hoped as I turned around startled to see a boy my age with brown hair flattened by a blue flat cap, dark eyes and sandy feet.
“Wow” was all this mysterious boy could say. I just sat there with a blank look on my face.
“Your really talented, you know?”
“Like Vincent Van goh or something” he announced
I cracked up with laughter, its not everyday that a unknown cute boy comes over to you and tells you that your just like Vincent Van goh.
“ Gee thankyou” was all I could say.
“ Could I join you?” he asked
“um sure, ok” I said kind of shocked.
Usually by now I would think he would be gone but he seems pretty confident and I kind of like his smile.
I handed him a sheet of paper and a pencil. There was silence for a few minutes with us both sketching away.
Until he said “ I haven’t seen you around, did you just move here?”
“ My family and I are up here on holiday for a few weeks, we arrived last night” I said.
“ Where is your family then?” he said quickly.
“ They are still asleep, I snuck out to see what the beach was like, then ended up drawing for a while,” I said while watching him draw. He was amazing at drawing, I was expecting a few scribbles on his page but he blew me away he was even better than my cousin who has won many art competitions.
“ Your pretty good yourself” I tried not to sound to stunned.
“ I’ve been drawing since I could walk and I’ve grown up in an artistic family and…”.
“ No need to brag” I said jokingly cutting him of, and threw sand at his feet.
“Oy, you really wanna go there” he laughed while throwing sand at my head but I ducked and ran.
I had put my bikini on underneath my dress, so I took of my dress and charged at the water laughing ridiculously. The water was stunning, refreshing and so relaxing, I could lay there forever.
Suddenly he came charging into the water after me and went straight under.
I laughed saying “ You left your hat on silly”
He chucked it onto the beach and went under again. It only hit me then, I didn’t even know this boys name and so I asked.
“Hey mister, what’s your name?”
“Tai, and you?” he shouted over the waves
“Summer” I said with a smile then caught a massive wave back to the shore. My phone was poking out frm the courner of my bag, It was already past one o'clock so I decided my parents would be wondering where I was.
“Nice meeting you Tai, I have to go now, maybe I’ll see you around?” I shouted from the shore as I walked of.
“ You to Summer, meet you here tomorrow at the same time” He laughed then went under so I couldn’t say no.
