Jess sat in front of Mary's school, putting the car into park as the bell rang. She sat in her usual spot and looked out for the blonde curls that bounced up to her car every day. She sat for what felt like a little longer than usual, trying not to get worried. She searched the crowd of kids for fifteen minutes before finally pulling out her phone and calling Sam. She cleared her throat, "Come on, Sam. Pick up. Pick up." Ringing continued until an automated voice filled Jess' ear. "Hey, babe. It's just me. I was just wondering if you picked Mary up early from school today. Call me back as soon as you can, Love you." She ended the call and turned off her car, getting out and going into the school building. She dialed Dean's number as she walked, praying he was behind this. Just before she dialed the last number Sam's name flashed onto her screen. "Sam, hey-"
"I've called Dean. I didn't get Mary and neither did he, he's on the phone with Bobby right now, where are you?" Sam said quickly from the other end, leaving his office.
"Walking into the school-" Jess began, stopping on the sidewalk and looking around.
"Get back into the car, I'm on my way. Stay on the line." Sam instructed, mere minutes from the school.
"Alright. Do you think she's okay?" Jess asked nervously, completely aware of the things that go bump in the night and how much they loathed any Winchester. She turned and started back toward her car, when she noticed Mary standing by the door. "Wait, Sam, she's right there by the car. Mary, baby, where have you been? You had me worried." Jess smiled once she got closer.
"I was playing. Sorry to scare you, Mommy." Mary grinned and held her arms out for a hug. Both parents' smiles shattered onto the ground.
"Jess, keep your distance, I'm almost there." Sam told her, a horn blaring through the phone. "I gotta move!" Jess heard him yell.
"What have you done to my daughter?" Jess asked, reaching into her purse.
"What do you mean, Mommy?" Mary's head cocked and both eyebrows went up innocently. Jess noticed the absence of the bracelet Dean had given her on her fifth birthday. Suddenly Mary began to cry and she looked up at Jess. "Mama! Mama, it's hurting me!" She sobbed, walking toward Jess.
"It's okay, baby. It's going to be okay." Jess put out her arms to comfort her child, the phone held with her shoulder and her cheek.
"Jess, no! Keep some distance!" Sam called into the phone, trying to navigate through traffic.
"Sam, it's okay, I think she's okay now." Jess explained, smiling at Mary as she walked forward, still crying. She squatted to hold her. "See, sweetie, it's ok- ahhh, ahhhh!" Jess gasped as she felt blood seep onto her stomach. She staggered away, one hand holding the wound, the other the phone. She stared at Mary in disbelief and watched as her eyes went black. "Sam," She gasped.
"Jess! Jess? Talk to me, Talk to me!" He screamed, in sight of the school. He floored it and pulled into the school, his black SUV peeling in. He climbed out without shutting off the car, and ran to them. He rattled off an exorcism quickly, catching Mary as she fell and setting her down gently. He ran to Jess and called 911. "Just hurry!" He finished off the call, hovering over his wife.
"Dada? What's-? Mama!?" Mary came rushing over, and Sam brought her immediately under his arm, pressing her face into his shoulder and stroking her hair.
"She's gonna be fine, Sweetie." Sam reassured them both, his other hand keeping pressure on Jess' wound. The squealing of tires caused Sam to turn his head, hugging Mary tighter. Relief washed over him as a black Impala raced into the lot. He opened his mouth to yell for his brother but shut it as he heard Jess try to speak. He shook his head, trying to give her a little smile. Dean came rushing over, picking up Mary and holding her face into his shoulder as well, blocking her view of Jess.
