Warning!!: If you are sensitive to angst at all, I don't recommend to read. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

------------------------------------------------

And another one bites the dust. Oh, why can I not conquer love?

Lance was walking through the crowded halls of his, what you could say, normal high school. He was holding his books rather close to his chest, of course, stands out as the loner of the school. He was walking to the side of the halls, alone, as he observed the people and their actions around him. Mostly the couples. They were usually talking in the middle of the hall or in some places darker and more secluded, others were kissing up against lockers, like the couples you see in those movies. Lance wasn't the fondest with love and it's hidden capabilities because he was one who knew those capabilities. It shattered every part of his once whole, beating heart.

And I might've got to be with one. Why not fight this war without weapons?

His class was just an arm-stretch away when he bumped into the most popular athlete in this school, Takashi Shirogane. 'Out of all the people in this school...' Lance thought to himself. He found himself pinned against a locker and his books sprawled upon the floor. "What makes you think a loner like you can bump into me??" Shiro asked with a stern tone echoing in his voice. Lance simply looked to the side to avoid Shiro's hostile gaze. "Answer me, 7th wheel". Lance hated that name, he earned it, or so you could say, at the homecoming dance back when he was a freshman since he didn't have a date when all of his, now disappeared friends went with him. Lance still kept quiet to the point where he noticed Shiro's fist pulling away from his shirt and nearly hitting the bridge of his nose or even his eye, then it stopped midway from some force. It was Keith. He was protecting Lance yet again as if he were really that important.

And I wanted it and I wanted it bad. But there were so many red flags.

Shiro eventually walked away after a teacher walked by to investigate the issue. Keith smiled handed Lance his books. As he took them away from the amethyst eyed boy who stood in front of him, he spoke ever so softly, "Thank you for that" Keith smiled and nodded, "Anytime, sharpshooter". Lance sighed as he watched Keith walk away, his feelings for him so clear yet cleverly hidden from everyone else. He wasn't the type to be afraid of admitting his feelings toward someone he admired, it was the love itself he was afraid of, there were lies, dishonesty, loss of trust, cheating etc, that Lance was scared about. He knew this because of past lovers. Lance walked into his class and sat down, doing his work like the 'good kid' he was, or so to the teachers at least.

Now another one bites the dust, let's be clear I trust no one. You did not break me, I'm still fighting for peace.

Lance walked out of class and into the people filled the hallway. He was heading towards his locker when he saw Keith standing in front of the locker. "What are you doing here?" Lance asked him as he stared into his eyes, "I need to tell you something and I don't know how you will react", Keith blurted out, he seemed to be nervous. "What is it?" Lance asked with a slight concern, "Well it's more of a question since I heard rumors throughout the school, do you have feelings for me?". Lance's heart skipped a beat but he was confident enough to answer, "Yes I do, why are you asking this?" Keith jerked up a bit, slightly startled from the question. "Because I feel the same way" He nervously chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck. Lance kind of backed away as he knew what was coming but he couldn't take the pain again. "Wanna go out sometime?" Keith asked, Lance, hesitated then shook his head and ran off after finally putting his books in his locker.

Well, I've got thick skin and an elastic heart, but your blade it might be too sharp.

Keith ran after him and it was caught to his attention that Lance was crying. He sat beside Lance as he listened to his soft sobs and watched the glistening tear fall down his cheek. Lance looked up and scooted away a little bit, "What do you want?" He said without making eye contact. "Why did you run away and why are you crying?" Keith said as he wiped the blue boy's tears away, a concerned and sincere tone showing through his words. "I am afraid of getting hurt again," he said with no eye contact. Keith was shocked at those words thinking about how such a boy could be hurt so emotionally. "I.." Keith couldn't find the words to say to Lance so he sat there and listened to the boy talk, "I don't wanna get hurt again because the pain is so unbearable I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, it's so mind damaging even though the damage is being done in your heart. Shattering it into little pieces.". All Keith could do was hug Lance and make an attempt at comforting him.

I'm like a rubber band until you pull to hard, But I may snap when I move close.

After a while of the 2 boys just sitting there, Keith finally broke the silence. "I can't exactly promise that...there won't be fights or hateful comments, but I can say there will be sunny, blue, skies and the most glimmery river you could ever see. The birdsong will sing the most beautiful melody and the flowers will grow just for you, I won't mean to hurt you if I do." Lance looked up at Keith and wiped his tears away, "You can't...promise all of that" his eyes puffy and his voice trembling. "But what if everything goes wrong and something happens" he strayed from Keith's touch ever so slightly. "I won't let it get that far," Keith said as he tried to win over Lances trust. 'How do I know I can trust him?' Lance asked himself. "I'm still scared though" Keith smiled softly as he heard Lance speak, "We all are when it comes to the dangers of love".

But you won't see me fall apart, Cause I've got an elastic heart.

Lance continued to sit there thinking about whether or not he should give in to the possible dangers that await him. He didn't ever want Keith to see his vulnerable side, he looked at Keith, his eyes, in which were as blue and mysterious as the ocean, glistened at him, "So.." Keith said, Lance, still afraid "I.." he didn't know what kind of words he would say so they sounded right. Keith leaned in and rested his head on Lance's shoulder, "It's okay to be afraid" Lance leaned his head on Keith's and smiled slightly, "I know but it's hard not to be" he was clearly afraid and Keith didn't know exactly how to help so he stayed by his side, clinging to Lance as he comforted him.

I've got an elastic heart, yeah I've got an elastic heart.

The scenery became more sincere and hopeful for the two. They sat there, cuddling up into each other as Lance truly decided what he wanted to do, accept Keith's offer and risk everything he has been standing for this entire time or decline it and possibly hurt the only person who has stayed by his side this whole time. Lance had forgotten what time it was but he didn't care at this point. Keith wrapped his arm around Lance, he didn't really care to wait for Lance's answer like this, it soothed both of them. Lance finally spoke ever so softly, "Alright," he said with some sort of discouragement, feeling what any other human would at this point, fear. Fear to be broken, lost, lied to, and other things Lance's past had introduced to him. Keith smiled and buried his head deeper into the crook of Lance's neck, Lance smiled for the first time, ever since middle school. It started to rain but neither of them cared, they just sat there and enjoyed each other's company and embrace. It was a beautiful moment for both of them.

The End. Thank you for reading.
