Sherwin's POV
I'm Sherwin and I've never really been good with getting friends because I am usually shy around other people. The one person that I'm not shy around is my mom. I never got to meet my father because he got divorced with my mom after she had me. Since it is only my mother working, we live in a poor part of town. Although she does all she can for me which is why I said I was surprised to find out I was going to a private christian middle school. I always thought that we wouldn't have enough money for me to even get into a private school. But since she was able to get me into a private school I was constantly thanking her.
So, unlike most most teens, I like going to school, doing homework, and reading. So when the end of Summer started approaching I was constantly thinking about all the new schoolwork and books I was going to get. But what surprised me this year is my mom telling me that I was going to a private christian school. Now I've never really been all into a religion, and one of those reasons is because I never went to church. So the fact that my mother was sending me to this private christian school made me start to think about how much different this school was going to be compared to my elementary school, and man was I right.
Time skip to the day before school begins
In the car ride, on the way to my new private christian school my mom asked me something.
"So what do you think about how I was able to get you into this school?"
"I don't know, but I do appreciate you being able to get me into it. How are you able to afford me going to this place?"
"Oh, I signed you up for a scholarship and they accepted you for your academic talents."
"Well that does make since; I do like doing schoolwork."
"Now I hope you don't forget that you are going to stay in a dorm at the school."
"Yeah I know, I'm just wondering who's going to be my roommate?"
"I'm curious too, but we'll figure out since today is the open house."
As she had finished what she was saying, we pulled into the school's parking lot. It wasn't as big as I thought it was going to be, but when I looked up at the school I thought I was daydreaming. It was huge, it looked like it covered at least a quarter of an acre. It was also two stories high. When I stopped mesmerizing about how big the school was I realized that we had found a parking spot, and my mom was outside the car waiting for me. I got out of the car and started walking towards the gigantic school and realized how many people were actually here for the open house.
We get to the front doors of the school and some lady handed us blank stickers to write our names on. I struggled to write my name since it had been a whole summer without me writing anything down on paper. Except for the fact that I drew a lot over the summer. So we put our name tags on and the lady motions us to a table with a bunch of schedules. A man is sitting their and he hands me my schedule. I take a look at it but my mom asks me what I have for all my periods.
"Well I have breakfast first, then I go to science with Mr. Hathaway . After that I go to social studies with Mr. french, then church study with Mrs. Jocham, math with Ms. Stanley, english with Ms. James, lunch, art with Mr. Bender, world cultures with Mrs. Steggy, music with Ms. Weis, gym with Mr. Ayers, dinner, and then free period. My dorm number is 57."
"That sounds like your going to have your hands full."
"Yeah but I like doing schoolwork, so I think I'll be fine."
"Alright, well let's go to your classes and your dorm to get you settled in and ready for tomorrow."
We go to all my classes, the dining hall, and then we get to my dorm. We unlock the door and see that no one is in their. So I guessed that my roommate hadn't came to the dorm yet. My mom goes back out to the car to get my stuff while I get settled into the dorm; sine I was going to be in the room for most of the school year. I found out that on weekends we can go do whatever we want as long as we're back by curfew, and that on most holidays I'll be going home for a little while. Plus there's two sets of dorms, one set for the girls and one set for the guys. I get out of the thoughts in my head because I hear footsteps coming from the hall way. I was hoping that it was my roommate but it was my mom with all my stuff.
