Chapter 9
A princess loved

Elijah is sitting on the porch with Hope, who is sitting in a baby seat. In the yard, Rebekah is setting up firewood "It's alright, Elijah. She won't break. Everything you did was in the name of protecting her. I'm not worried." Rebekah tells him
Elijah picks up Hope and holds her "Hi, sweetheart." He whispers to his niece. Elijah finally notices that Rebekah is setting up for a fire and looks at her in confusion.

"Is that what I think it is?" He asked his sister. Rebekah walks back toward Elijah and Hope and smiles happily. "It's bonfire season! And I am reviving a family tradition! Especially since we're all going to be together." She states. "Only because we're fleeing from one of our deranged parents. Another Mikaelson tradition. It's a peculiar thing-- never to be tired, yet forever exhausted by the sameness of things. Why is our family always at war?" Rebekah smiles and touches Hope's hand.
"I don't know. But, being away with her made me see things differently." She lowers her voice as she gently talks to both Hope and Elijah "We're not so bad. We're not the monsters that our parents think we are." Rebekah tells Elijah

Suddenly, Klaus, Bethan and Hayley's black SUV speeds down the driveway, and Klaus doesn't even get the chance to park before Bethan rushes out of the car and sprints toward Rebekah, Elijah and her daughter. She stops in her tracks as soon as she sees Hope, as though she can't believe her eyes. Rebekah and Elijah both smile at her as Klaus and Hayley catches up with them, and Elijah wastes no time handing a smiling Hope to Bethan.

"Hi!" She whispered as hugs Hope tightly and breaths a sigh of relief. Behind her, Klaus is near tears and too overwhelmed to move. Hayley is  unable to meet Elijah's eye. Bethan turns so Klaus can see his daughter as well. She walks over to klaus and hands him their daughter. Hope coos happily, and Klaus and Bethan both laugh. Klaus kissed hope on the forehead holding her close while her mother rests a her head on klaus' shoulder. Elijah, Rebekah and Hayley all watch as this little family is finally complete and can't help but smile.

After settling in the Mikaelsons discuss the newest revelations they've just learned while they continue to build the bonfire
"Curse on the first-born? What the bloody hell is that supposed to mean?" Rebekah asked "Well, according to Finn, our sister Freya didn't die of plague. She was taken as payment by our aunt Dahlia, who then cursed all Mikaelson first-borns for eternity." Klaus briefly explained. "Is any of this true?" Hayley wondered "It is if we are to believe Finn, who learned it from the bastion of truth-- our mother." Elijah reminded them.

"Well, no wonder Finn hates us. He lost the sister he adored, and instead got a judgy pack of siblings who found him unbearably dull." Rebekah "Great. So, is there any chance of us running into your loony aunt Dahlia any time soon?" Bethan asked sarcastically. "The fable's over a thousand years old. Dahlia is long dead." The eldest Mikaelson assured her. "...Like Esther?" Hayley pointed out
"No one's going to hurt Hope, because no one's going to find her." He pauses for a beat "There's enough wood, Rebekah. You'll burn down the whole bloody state of Arkansas." Klaus laughed looking at Elijah.
