"We need to talk."
Your heart started to race. This was your fault, you didn't want to disrupt their lives!
"Talk about what?" You heard Nate quickly reply, shutting the door behind Matt as he ushered him inside.
"Where's Y/N?" Matt asked, looking back at Nate and hopping up the stairs quickly. Obviously he wanted to talk to both of you. You'd never seen Matt like this though. He was always composed, but not to the point where seemed super serious. Nate gestured toward you, and you watched Matt cautiously, your face a mixture of confusion and worry. Matt's face seemed to lighten once he saw you, he quickly made his way to the table you were sitting on and sat in the seat across from you. Nate slid into the seat behind you, setting his arms on the table, resting on his forearms.
"What day was it when you fell asleep Y/N?" Matt asked honestly. He seemed legitimately interested, but it was a strange question to hear.
"September 23rd, what day is it today?" You asked, and you could hear the worry in your voice, though you didn't mean to.
"It's the 28th..." You heard Nate say softly. He seemed pretty shocked.
"And what's more? I got this in the mail today." Matt pulled out a small box from his coat pocket, setting it on the table in front of you. It was about the size of a bed to you, which meant no more than 5 inches. It'd already been opened, but the tape that was left over from the messy opening stuck the box flaps together. You looked at Matt confused, and you saw a small smile flicker over his face, before he motioned to the box again. You stood up, taking a step toward it, reaching out to open the box.
"It's.. clothes... they're all mine..." You quickly opened the box fully, stepping into it and looking around. All of your clothes were properly sized, like they'd changed with you. It was pretty messy, nothing was folded, but you sat down near the side of the box, speechless.
"I- these are yours?" Nate asked, using a finger to push the box closer toward him, but you just nodded numbly.
"I knew it was strange, but this does give us more clues. Whoever did this had to had to know a good amount of personal information. Do you know if this is missing anything?" Matt seemed to go straight into the questions, you weren't sure how much you could answer, but you could try. You sifted through the clothes for a moment- it really did seem like someone had dumped your drawers into a box and shrunken it.
"I- I don't think so. Even the stuff I haven't worn in months is here." It didn't make any sense to you, but you were sure Theory Man would be putting pieces together as soon as he found a match.
There was a long pause."Ugh, none of this makes sense!"Matt seemed to be fed up with being confused, which made sense. He couldn't exactly research his way out of this one.
"We're still missing pieces Matt, try not to worry too much." You looked up at him, trying to calm him down, though you were sure it wouldn't do much, but all you could do was try. You saw him take a deep breath, and he seemed to loosen up a bit, which made you feel a bit better.
"Alright. Well, don't you think your parents are worried about you? Maybe if we contact them..." You shrugged, and Matt trailed off. He watched you with a worried look.
"Well... my parents were always pretty absorbed in their work. They might not have even noticed." You spoke to the ground, not able to look either Matt or Nate in the eyes.
"Y/N, you're saying your parents wouldn't notice if their daughter disappeared?" Nate quickly piped up, and you turned to him with a meek look on your face, and shrugged again.
"What job has your parents so absorbed, busy, that they never see you?" Matt seemed to retaliate, looking more worried than before. Wait, what did your parents do? They just kind of left and came home together, never talked about work, or only said common phrases like "work was busy" or "got a lot done today" whenever you did talk with them.
"I'm honestly not sure... the most I know is they work together, with varying hours, but that's it." You said softly, wondering why you'd never asked that yourself. Maybe because you never really got the chance to in the first place. You saw the giants both shake their heads, as well as a soft sigh from Matt.
"Maybe it's better you're here..." Nate smiled softly, chuckling to himself. Something came your mind that you probably should've thought of earlier.
"Don't you guys have to work on videos?" You asked abruptly, looking back and forth between Matt and Nate. They both started to nod slowly, like kids who didn't want to go to school.
"I don't want to stop this brainstorm, but maybe we should just go on with life for a bit, possibly figure something out along the way." You suggested, not happy about it either, but also they weren't about to send you home, so it was still a win for you.
"I-" Matt sighed. "I guess you're right." He nodded, looking over you at Nate.
"What're your plans today Matt? Because I-" Nate seemed like he was about to ramble, but Matt cut him off, smiling.
"I can take her if you're busy." He said calmly. "I'm just doing research, nothing exciting."
"Thanks. I totally forgot about the recording I'd booked today, so I'll see you guys later." Nate looked relieved. You perked up at the mention of a recording.
"Boo, I don't get to come!" You fake pouted, looking up at Nate's sceptical face. His eyebrows seemed as high as they could go as he set his head down on the table.
"Oh really? You want everyone there to see you, probably freak out, maybe even call the police?" He said confidently.
"Is that a threat? Are you threatening someone 3 inches tall who doesn't actually have a choice in the matter?" You raised your eyebrows back at him, crossing your arms. Nate nodded, shrugging.
"Touché... but this isn't over." Nate squinted at you playfully, and you squinted back.
"I don't want to interrupt whatever is happening here, but if you guys are ready to go, then we should probably get going." Matt didn't seem to want to go either, but someone needed to be the voice of reason.
"Fiiiiine." Nate rolled his eyes and sighed loudly, getting up out of his chair before looking out the window idly. You watched him, before being jolted upright as Matt picked up the box you were sitting in. Regaining your balance, Matt smiled sheepishly.
"Sorry, I should've warned you." He said, as he made his way down the stairs to the front entryway.
"Don't worry about it." You said quietly, keeping yourself steady in the bed sized box. Another car trip wasn't really high up on the list of things you wanted to do, but hanging out with MatPat was, so the ride was worth it. Matt set you on a small table as he put on his jacket, Nate just behind him.
"So you'll keep in touch?" Nate asked quickly, glancing at you with a sad smile. Again with the touching moments, he just met you yesterday, was he going to miss you? Matt interrupted your internal fangirling.
"Of course, and same goes vice versa, you find anything, let me know. If nothing happens, I guess I'll see you tomorrow." He tapped your box, obviously to warn you, but you were already watching him as he scooped the box into his palm, shaking you lightly. Nate opened the front door, motioning Matt through as he followed behind, locking the door and opening his car door.
"See ya!" Nate waved to both of you as Matt slipped into the car, but not before you waved back, grinning.
