The minute I sat down, the teacher called my name.
“Arianne Scarlet, did you think you can just waltz in here and sit down?” The teacher angrily said.
“No, Miss_____?” I didn’t know her name so I just prolonged the ‘S’ sound which made the whole class smile.
“Petunia” She finally answered.
“No, Miss Petunia, you see, it’s my first day here and I didn’t know where to go and I went around the building looking for this class. Fortunately, someone helped me but I’m still late, I’m sorry.”
“I didn’t ask for your excuse.”
“I know you didn’t but it was best that you know why I was late and that I won’t be late again.”
“Alright then, sit down and we’ll continue our lesson.” She smiled as she turned towards the board. My daddy always said I was a charmer. My lips turned to a curve.
“Psstt….”
I looked at my right and saw a girl who was smiling with her dimples glowing.
“Hey, I’m Lauren.” She told me.
“Arianne, you can call me Ari.”
“Ari, you are so lucky!” She gushed.
“Why?” I asked perplexed.
“You saw one of the most gorgeous guys in school and it’s still your first day!”
She has so much enthusiasm it can probably kill me; her voice is like a megaphone and to think she’s only whispering. I shuddered.
“umm…yeah…who was that guy anyways?” I hate to admit it but i was-- am a little curious.
“You enrolled here and you don’t know?” She asked, surprised.
“No.”
“Wow, that’s….Surprising. Since you obviously don’t know the social status of the regime here, I’ll tell you.” She looked at me like I was stupid in coming here and not knowing.
She started telling me about everything. I think I stopped listening halfway and well, let’s cut to the chase, I’ll tell you what I remembered from, her very long, very detailed discussion. There are two prime classes: the Clash which are consisted of jocks, cheerleaders and rich people, and then there’s THE CREW, they aren’t considered jocks though they play sports, they are rich and influential though. It’s probably why most students and teachers don’t mess with them. They aren’t bad just unpredictable. You’ll never know what they’ll do next. She told me that one time they didn’t come to school for a month. They said they went on an early vacation and it’s not like the school can stop them.
“So which class are you from?” I asked her just so she can stop rumbling on and on about her ex-boyfriend.
“I’m an average.” She said coolly.
“So, how about the newly transferred? What class are they in?”
“It depends on whether or not you can join the Cheerleading tryouts later or if one of the members approaches you and ‘calls’ on you.”
“What do you mean ‘calls’ on you?” I looked at her curiously.
“It’s like…umm…it’s complicated to explain so I’ll tell you an example. A cheerleader approaches you and invited you to eat at their table at lunch. If you accept and they like you, you join the Clash if they don’t your rank either goes to almost average or the lowest rank the ‘Untouchables’. They aren’t allowed to be Average if the person is disliked by either the Clash or THE CREW.
