Austen

We're in the car, heading home and Arianne still hasn't talked to me. Will she not talk to me anymore?

"Aus....."

I whipped my head to face her. I looked at her dumbfounded. Crying? Arianne?

"Aus, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get mad but after...after what h-happened... I don't think I'll be able to handle it." She said in a tiny voice that I would have never dreamed hearing again. The voice she used to use.

"Angel, don't cry. I'm here for you. I should be the one apologizing. "As I pat her head, after a few minutes, she started calming down.

"Are you okay Angel? We're at your house already."

"Who are you calling Angel?" Irritated. She's Irritated.

"Ari, you're okay." She was just crying a moment ago. Wow. Fast alter. Does she have PMS right now?

"Of course I'm okay. Why wouldn't I be? Oh and by the way don't call me 'Angel' anymore. I detest that name." So much raw emotion when she said those last four words made me remember. She opened the door and started walking away.

"Awww... But you used to love it when I called you Angel, don't you love me anymore?" I shouted.

"Fuck off." She called.

She is so pissed.

As I drove away from her house, things got me thinking.

Was it too much? Did she remember?

And for the first time in a very long time, I fell asleep thinking.

Arianne

I rolled around in my bed. I was sweating. I can feel the sweat but my eyes won't open.

"STOP", someone shouted. A woman?

"Wake up Ari." Something's pulling on my arm. Someone.

"Ari, WAKE UP!" I woke up suddenly. Gasping for air, I hold my blanket tightly as if it's the only thing keeping me at ground.

"Ari, are you okay?" Concern evident in his voice.

I looked towards the arm holding my hand. My eyes, slowly, travelling towards his face. Austen.

"Austen." I can feel tears building in my eyes but I'm strong. I won't let myself lose.

"I'm here, Angel." A strong agitation in his voice, though quiet. He's livid and I don't know why.

"Austen? Why are you here in my room?"

"I...uhh.... I wanted to make sure you're alright." He was hesitating. This means he's trying to come up with a lame excuse.

"How long have you been here?" I asked sweetly.

"uhh.... A while ago?" He was looking like an idiot sitting there never letting go of my hand.

"Uh huh. Sure you were. And I was here dreaming about you."

"You were?" He asked in an excited way?

"What? Of course not you dope."

"And here I was dreaming of you." He said nonchalantly.

"Liar."

"What? You don't believe me? That hurts Arianne. That's a hard blow to the heart." He was clutching his chest and was making these stupid noises that I found so laughable. I couldn't help it I started laughing.

"Can I sleep here tonight Ari?"

"Why?"

"So I can scare all your bad dreams away."

I stared at him. I just stared. I never thought he would say something as cheesy as that.

"So, can I stay?" "Ari?" "Hello?"

I snapped out of my trance and glared at him.

"Of course not!"

"Alright, fine I'll leave. Good night Ari."

"Good night Austen, see you tomorrow."

I watched him jump out of my window. I lied down on my bed and stared at the ceiling. Thinking that maybe I shouldn't have let him leave until I fell asleep. Too late for that though.
