Sad and Glad

Damian was alone. He's always alone he reminded himself. Except, it wasn't always this way. There was a time in his life where he wasn't only not alone, but happy. Being happy, although it was a feeling that he seldom felt, was addictive. He was addictive.

Damian remembers their first meeting. It was rocky. They would go on a date and then ignore each other for weeks on end. Although, it was mostly Damian who did the actual ignoring. In his defense, while he loved spending time with him, the boy wasn't that popular. Damian knew now that it doesn't matter and he wished he could tell him that too.

It was five years ago today when Pip walked out of his life. That's why he came to the only bar in this small town. He did this every year because it was always painful thinking about the one that got away. Then suddenly, as if from a dream, he was right there. For a second Damian thought he was hallucinating, but even after pinching himself the blonde haired blue eyed boy he used to love was still there.

He quickly jumped out of the chair he was in and rushed over to the unsuspecting boy, "Pip, is that you?"

Pip froze in shock looking around before his eyes landed on Damian, "oh, Damian, hello." He seemed nervous but then so was Damian, so he didn't overthink it. There was silence where Damian just took in the boy in front of him. While his frame had matured considerably since the last time he'd seen him, he still looked beautiful. He used to always swear that Pip was an angel.

He snapped out of it at the same time Pip was becoming worried. To make up for it Damien pulled him into a hug. "How are you?" Damian added so happily that it almost seemed fake.

Pip gently pushed Damian off but played along anyway, "oh, I'm doing good, great actually." He bit his lip and then continued, "how are you?"

Damian thought about confessing everything. That he hasn't been the same in five years. That Damian just wanted Pip back in his life, and the son of Satan would do anything for him. That Damian missed the blonde angel that he somehow took for granted over the two years they dated on and off. Instead, he just replied with, "I'm doing good too."

Damian kept trying to force conversation. Something, anything, to make him stay longer. He could tell though that the other boy wasn't into it. Pip kept searching around for something, Damian didn't know what it was, but he just hoped that it wasn't a way to escape him.

Again, in a last-ditch attempt to keep Pip around he pulled out the chair next to his, "come sit with me."

He shook his head vigorously, "oh, Damian, I don't think I can."If it weren't for the rejection, Damian would have smiled. Pip never liked refusing people anything, that was part of what made him an easy target to bullies all his life. He was glad Pip has gotten more assertive over the years.

Damian kept insisting though because he wasn't going to give up on Pip that easily. "Come on, I insist," he tried to give a full smile, but he was never good at smiling. Pip looked hesitant, but Damian could tell he was getting to him, "I haven't seen you in years, come on, we have to catch up." Damian bitterly laughed, "I don't even know how that happens, we've lived in the same small town for all of our lives, and I somehow haven't seen you since that day when I woke up, and you were just gone."

Pip went to place a comforting hand on Damian but stopped midway, but then he just swallowed harshly, whatever he was going to say got interrupted by the waitress coming towards them.

She had dark brown hair, curvy, and hazel eyes. If Damian wasn't comparing her to Pip, he might even say that she was cute. She smiled, and on anyone else, it would have seemed fake, but it seemed to suit her well. "What can I get you love birds?"
