The next day, news came to Anna and George. They were shocked to hear that the operation failed. Anna blamed Charles for promising her and breaking it, but because of that, she yelled the truth about everything.
In actuality, Anna's first husband was Jake, Lucy's father. They were a happy family, but Lucy was closer to her father than to her mother, that's why they didn't really have a lot of sweet moments. It even made Anna wonder who the wife was because Jake spent too much time for Lucy but too little time for Anna. Nevertheless, Anna was a kind person and she didn't complain about it. At least Jake still spends time with her in his tight schedule.
Lucy was not just close to her father, but very close. When Lucy had problems, it was Jake who she would immediately turn to. Anna knew it was because of that time when he helped Lucy make up with her friend. She didn't even realize she was feeling down until Jake told her. It was because of that fight that Lucy never turned to her when she has a problem. And she felt disappointed in herself for not realizing it.
But... when Lucy was ten years old, she'd been in the school past dismissal time because Jake had worked overtime. Because of that, she yelled at her father to hurry up through the phone, so he did. But what happened after that was unexpected. Definitely unexpected.
While driving and speaking to his daughter through the phone, he failed to notice a big truck cross the lane. The moment he realized it... he was already dead.
That was why Lucy blamed herself. It was because of her that Jake died; that her beloved father died. She was traumatized. It was only after a year that Anna found out about this and consulted a doctor. But not even one doctor believed they could cure her. She went to countless doctors until she reached Charles. He promised her he would cure her... and promised again that she would be well a few days before... He also told Lucy he wouldn't allow her to die.
But... He broke them. He broke all his promises, all his pride and dignity, all of his fame and popularity... and let Lucy die.
