Amy

It was a rainy day; the girl was looking out of her window. The season was starting, the Season of the Fluids, the only five months in their land where fluids don’t have a chance of evaporating within the first three hours.
“I hope we don’t get flooded by the fluids,” she whispered to herself.
“Amy,” her mother called, “What are you doing? Shouldn’t you be doing your chores?”
“I don’t have any chores, Mom, because I am you,” Amy revealed.
“What,” her mother screamed as she watched Amy slowly turn into her.
“Just kidding, mom,” she said, as she turned back into herself. “You always forget I’m a sorceress… Actually, come to think of it, you always forget. About everything. Don’t you think it’s peculiar, mom, that you always seem to forget that I’m a sorceress? Or do you force yourself to because you want to forget that dad’s a sorcerer too?”
“You are not to speak of your father!” her mother snapped, “nor magic, nor anything about men! Magic is stupid and men will only break your heart.” As her rage intensified and elongated, rain started to fall as gas – poisonous gas.
“The emperor must be angry again, this only happens when he’s angry,” Amy said, staring outside. “What do you think is happening?”
The poisonous gas slowly affected her mother as she was not a sorceress. “Sorry mom,” Amy said, “I can’t help you. You told me not to talk about nor use magic.”
“Amy, one last thing, have you drunk the coffee I prepared you,” and as Amy nodded her head, her mom continued, “I may not be a sorceress but I am an alchemist.”
“I can’t believe it mom!” Amy wailed out, crying, “Did you put something in my coffee to turn me into a duck?”
"No, it's not to turn you into a duck." Her mother chuckled, "You see, I'm not your mother, but you are my daughter." Magic surrounded him and he turned into a sorcerer, wearing the emperor's crest on his robes. "I have just drugged you, and I'm taking you to the emperor. Amy Starlight, you are under arrest for treason."
"Oh no you don't! Do you think you can escape with that? You see, the emperor has been kidnapped, so you must be..." Amy Starlight tapped him on the shoulder and out came....
"The emperor!" Amy shouted in surprise, "I can't believe this! I thought you were his kidnapper."
The emperor was younger than what Amy thought he was. He was around her age, maybe a year older. Amy knew she hated him, and that she should. But she had to admit, he wasn't bad looking. Nonetheless, he was still a tyrant. Her eyes started to drop, she was feeling drowsy. "You....Why...."
She woke up, in a straitjacket in an isolated room.
A bald man stood in front of her, watching her every move and looking very focused. "Who are you?" He had teleported, so Amy guessed he was a sorcerer too.
"Hello Princess Amelia," he said. But that didn't make sense. Amy was no princess and her name wasn't Amelia, it was just Amy.
Amy said, “I said, ‘WHO ARE YOU?’”
"You expect me to answer that, princess?" he asked, "As high as my respect is for royalty, I cannot say who I am."
"Cut it with all this princess crap, I'm Amy. Just a regular girl forced to hide her powers because my mother forbids it! Let me out!" As she got angrier, the straight jacket disintegrated and she ran for the door. Only, there was no door. Her world literally shattered around her as she kept running for the imaginary door.
The bald man suddenly appeared in front of her, and held her wrist tight. "You will never escape me."
"Stop it! No! Don't do this, where's my mother? WHAT DID SHE PUT IN MY COFFEE?" As the last piece of Amy’s world fell, the bald guy melted.
"Your mother was a work of fiction," a voice boomed in her head, "She was never real. In fact, it's time to reveal something you should know by now: All your life in that magical land was just the work of scientists trying to preserve your thoughts for you were the greatest mind in history, and you've been living in that magical fantasy since then. But now, it is time to accept the truth, the truth that everyone must die."
"Ha," Amy replied, "I've known this all along. You people have fallen for my wondrous act, and might I say you created a highly realistic world. But your intelligence will not surpass mine."
"But your knowledge does not change the fact that our scientists will release you now, we've gathered all the information we needed, and you are draining too much of our expenses. I'm sorry, Amy,” argued the voice.
"Ha? You won't release me. It's too much of a risk. I could go tell people that you were experimenting on humans, which of course is highly illegal! You won't release me when I can ruin everything," she said. "So tell me, what are you really going to do to me?"
"I underestimate your knowledge, Amelia, but who are you going to tell the knowledge to? All this is fiction! Second point: Experiment? Oh please, we were doing both you and mankind a favor! We could have just let you die, we didn't even kill you? Do you think we, a community of over a thousand people, could have gotten away with sixteen years of illegal experimentation? You see, you could never surpass our knowledge, but maybe you can match it."
"The emperor," she said slowly, "he was real. He was one of the scientists. Where is he?"
Amy went without an answer for hours until everything shut down - no noise, no lights, and not even a single sign of life was seen until finally, the "emperor" went in. He wasn't wearing a lab coat like the other scientists, he was wearing casual clothes. "You called for me?" he said, a smirk on his face which only made Amy hate him more.
“You… you took everything from me,” said Amy angrily.
But the Emperor retorted, “Took everything from you? You were nothing to begin with!”
“I could have had a life. A normal life.”
“No, Amy, you would have died. You were a kid, you were playing, and you died! But you don’t remember that too, do you?”
“So…” Amy said, “I’m dead?”
"Amy... " he said slowly, "you're both dead and alive. If we take you out of this place, you'll have a few weeks, maybe months before you die." He looked sad. "Amy, do you remember me?"
Amy looked at him, taking in his every move, every word, every breath. "I don't-- You were the emperor in my world, is that right?"
"Your world is different from our world, Amy. Please. Please remember our times together..."
"Wait, I remember something. But it wasn't in that fantasy place." She closed her eyes and started to think. "I wasn't alone when I died. Someone was with me."
