I remember this night as it was yesterday. As if I was still in your arms as I was..one year ago.

August 15th, 2016:
I take in the scent of the only increasingly chilly air. It smelled of burning marshmallows, hotdogs and burgers and the ever so familiar, water. As I rewrap my now damp towel, I head over to the small fire in regards to getting warmer. I, still in my bathing suit, tied my hair in a ponytail and wrapped the towel around my shoulders. I glance over to realize that my boyfriend, Sam was nearing me.

"Are you having a nice time?" He asks me, placing himself beside me.

"Of course. Nothing ever goes this amazing." I answer him and flash a smile.

He smiles back and wraps one of his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to him. I rest my head on him as I feel his warmth. I take in the scent of his dry, white tee.

And for that moment I thought

"Life won't be that bad."

But of course, it only got worse. As I had jinxed it. Sam and I broke up not too much longer later. I believe sometime around November. Ever since then, he's been a player to every girl. I've heard everything about him so far and he's probably dating two or three girls at the moment. I've always wondered why someone would do that. I'd never find out anyways. You never know why such actions exist.

I stare at my bedroom ceiling for a hour until my eyes start to doze off somewhere else. Maybe into a dream or maybe into a nightmare..

                               . . .
A month later...
September 15th, 2017:

My alarm clock rang out, continuously. I smack my hand down on the 'dismiss' button as I throw the covers off of my once warm self. I sit up and sigh as I realize that I still have no other choice but to go to school. Being a Junior is hard sometimes. I slide my legs over to dangle off the side of my bed. Following, I scoot farther to place my feet on the ground, standing up. Then I walk myself to the bathroom to apply my face.

                                  . . .
I spin my dial, punching in the combination which results into unlocking my locker. I grab the handle and push up, revealing the most plainest thing I see everyday. I hang my backpack on one of the hooks, unzipping it and grabbing my binders and textbooks for the first three hours. I shut my locker and turn the dial in the opposite direction to lock it. I turn to walk to my first period when I see an unfamiliar face.

Brown, sorta curly-ish hair
Blue eyes
Small nose, freckles
Calming pink lips.

He turns to me for a moment and looks into my eyes. Must've realized I was staring. I walked over to him, ignoring the nervousness I feel.

"Hey there, are you new?" I ask him.

"Yeah. First day. Is this school any good?" He asks in return.

"Depends on what you make of it, really. What's your name?" I followup.

"I'm Liam. And you?"

"I'm Avery." I answer.

"Nice to meet you. What grade are you in?"

"You too. I'm a junior."

"Aw sweet. Me too."

He takes out his schedule and unfolds it, showing it to me.

"Same first." I say.

"Well we should get going." He smiles.

And from that, we walk off to our first period.
