Something screamed. Something else laughed evilly.
"What was that?" Wendy pulled a terrified-looking expression. "A scream?! Erm, bye!" She ran away.
"Wait! I-"
"Forget it, Rail," Hikari said, rolling her eyes. "Not every pokemon under the sun has to travel with us."
"Uhh, guys?" Ripple said gingerly. "While you two were arguing...Hotaru ran away!"
Hikari glared at him. "Well, then, WHY didn't you STOP her?"
Ripple's eyes widened but he kept cool enough. "I am a piplup," he explained carefully. "I can hardly walk, let alone run after a ponyta."
Hikari looked at him and her expression slowly softened. "Never mind then, just the three of us again, yeah?"
Meanwhile, very nearby...
Shatter, the female of the poochyena twins, gasped. "Echo, an arcanine!"
Echo leapt to Shatter's side. "Where?!"
"Over here!" the arcanine yelled, lunging at Shatter, who screamed She fell to the floor, covered in bites and scratches. The arcanine laughed evilly.
Echo cast a cold stare over the stripy pokemon then spoke slowly. "You should NOT have done that."
"Oh, really?" the arcanine said in a patronising tone. "And what, may I ask, are you going to do about it?"
"You'll see," Echo said quickly. "Everyone who hurts my sister has a very short lifespan."
The arcanine roared.
Back with the gang, Rail said, "Hey, did you hear that?"
"Actually, I did," Hikari said, furrowing her brow. "Follow me, it's coming from this direction..." She walked off to the place where the poocheynas and the arcanine stood.
Rail saw them and gasped. "The poor poochyena! Up against an arcanine! He'll never survive! We have to help him!"
Echo took the arcanine down in one move and watched the orange body fall to the ground with a thump.
Rail gawked.
