It was cold icy winter morning, the snowflakes that twirled down in the wind happen to piled in my dark brown hair. The snow plows cleaned the streets and the cars were driving as slow as possible on the slush filled roads. Time had passed and the streets were different and the shops that once remained were gone placed with others. The people dressed up in bundles almost all looking the same. The children playing at the park running and jumping. Making snowman's that weren't all that good. The warmth of my thick and big coat and gloves made me feel happy but a thought came along souring my mood, I'm going to get yelled at when I go back to work because I missed today all for him. It had been a year since he had disappeared into thin air not even telling a soul where he was going. But I was determined to find him again so I came back to this little town once more, that had changed ever so much.
Watching my step as my small brown boots moved on the ice covered pavement they call a sidewalk in the winter. When there was no sidewalk to be seen. I was looking for it, had it gone as it was there when I was a kid with old people and teens alike to hang out and families of every kind. I came upon the cafe with the heat radiating of the window and the glass door calling me in for the warmth. The window painted with the logo as it desperately need a new one as it was peeling off from the inside. It was the same just as I had went back in time.
I entered the door to hear a bell and was greeted with the smell of coffee and the many people on their laptops and some just enjoying the good smelling treats and the hot and strong coffee that also invited me in. The yellow walls covered with amateur painting of unknown artist and the books that covered the large bookshelf filled with all books of a kind including some of my favorites such as Hush Hush, Harry potter the whole series, Evermoor. The fake plants placed in the corner on the small space. The wooden floor and the booths that were vacant with the people occupying the wooden tables and chairs. The waiters with spilt coffee on there aprons, that couldn't catch a break, delivering coffee to outsiders picking up there caffeine for the day. This place was close to home but far away from the place. Like another universe that was safe and welcoming not matching the cold wind outside.
So much different that it felt like it just me, as the time stopped as I approached the wooden table and a waiter came to take my order, without looking at the person I scanning over the menu. I ordered a latte and a donut with white frosting, and patiently waited for my order as I looked at the snow falling silently on the other side of the window the cushion that I was sitting on sinking me in. Watching the people walk by the window in a carefree manner. That would be me if I wasn't on a mission today I thought. Pulling me out of my thoughts as my coffee and donut had arrived and on it a flower swirled on the hot surface of the seemingly good coffee. Still not bothering to look at the waiter I looked at my cup.
The cup that was tinted a shade of white and was porcelain was small but just enough to fill my belly up with heat and the donut making me eager for more. After I finished it I payed and brought out a book out called The Outsiders that was safely hidden in my reddish brown soft little bag that cost me a expensive ten dollars. I felt like I was the only person on Earth with the wonderful book, as time passed and it became a little darker outside and people started to leave the cafe. I happened to looked out the window, my heart raced. There he was the person that loved this place the person that loved coffee. I bolted out my seat as he was now walking faster as I just barely made it to the door. Slammed it open to hear the bell ring harshly. I was hit with a rush of cold air and ran out in the middle of the sidewalk to the way He ran but I know i've seen him before he looked so familiar. Coming close to the corner of the street to realize he was gone and I was alone once again. As I fell to my knees in shock, anger, frustration, dissatisfaction and sadness. I had lost. The worst feeling in the world is knowing you did your best you could and it still was wasn't good enough. I thought that was the end.
Until I woke up from the book that I drooled on with a startled as I was shaken softly. It was the waiter, and I was fallen with disappoint as I only looked at their uniform, Only to look up and there he was.
"I was wondering when you would notice me."he said.
" The why did you say anything you dummy I was looking for you"I said timidly.
"So have I, I knew you would come back to this coffee cafe once again that why I got a job here"He said.
"Wow dedication I miss you to my friend"I said.
" ready for this?" I said clearing my throat.
"I lost my way all the way to you and in you I found all the way back to me"I said softly.
"You're so cheesy just like before haha"he said lightly chuckling.
"No I am not!"I yelled.
"Ok maybe just a little."I said holding my fingers up together slightly apart emphasizing my words.
"I finally found you too you strange idiot"he said quietly laughing pulling me into a hug.
"Herrrhem i'm still here you know" said the other waiter giving me my check.
"Sorry about that candy, well tell the boss I quit" he said grabbing my hand and running outside.
As the door closed we could hear her shouting then walking off not caring.
"Wait why you do that don't you need college tuition?" I said.
"I have many secrets" he said laughing not answering my question, which made me mad.
"Im so done with you."I said walking away.
"Then why did you come to find me!" he he shouted.
As he ran up to me smirking.
"Wipe that smirk off you face and for the record we found each other."I said.
"Sureeee" he said laughing loudly.
Then he slipped on ice and I died.
"HAHAHAHA"
"I not even going to help you my hands are cold" I said.
"You so mean my butt hurts" he said whining.
I picked him up and we started to walk around the city of chicago the city I never wanted to leave again.
