The back of Vanessa's hand stuck Dmitri's left cheek. Too stunned to move, he glared at her. Perhaps it was disrespectful to say another woman's name, but for one, he didn't deserve to be slapped when it wasn't his fault.
He sat up, then grabbed her shoulders. Once he pushed her off him, he jumped out of the bed. A small hand seized hold of his wrist, stopping him from reaching the door. "Please, don't leave. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to slap you."
Eyes blazing, he turned to face her. "Just leave me alone. Vanessa, I have better things to focus on than...Not only do I have to make sure that our friends make it here safely from their jobs, but I also have to make certain our enemies don't find us. I have no time to be distracting myself with such things." He jerked his hand free and stormed out of the room, slamming the door shut behind him.
Down the corridor, Jace stood, eyes knitted together and lip clenched shut. "I thought you weren't interested."
"I'm not. We were just discussing an assignment."
"Oh, really?" He gestured to Dmitri's ripped shirt. "I can imagine what type of assignment."
"I'm going to rest." Without another word, Dmitri walked down the hallway toward his room. When he turned the knob, he glanced at Jace to find him staring at him intently. If things kept progressing the way they were, Dmitri was certain their friendship would cease to exist.
Once inside his room, he removed the rags that once were his black shirt. The image of Ludovica came back into his mind, and no matter how hard he tried to think of something else, he couldn't. The damn bond was starting to have an effect on him. He sat down on the edge of the bed, head in his hands.
Why did he let curiosity get the best of him?
If he would have followed the rules and never crossed the river....
No.
Nothing would have changed.
No matter if they would have never met when they were children, as adults, sooner or later they would have still crossed paths.
He slumped back on the bed, staring at the white lightbulb on the ceiling that prevented the darkness from overwhelming the small room. His eyelids closed, then reopened, over and over until they stayed shut, allowing the darkness to seize hold of him.
Soft hands caressed his shoulders before sliding down his abdomen. Then, her sweet, soothing voice whispered, "Dimitri, my sweet mate."
Glancing down, he met her playful smirk. Her eyes fluttered as she inhaled his aroma. Evidently, this damn bond was making him lose his mind.
She placed a soft kiss upon his cheek, then chin. She began to make her way down, taking her sweet time. The dream got hot and heavy too quickly. Heart pounding against his chest, he allowed her to do what she wish, for the first time in his existence submitting to someone.
"Ludovica." At his ragged voice, her eyes snapped up in his direction. "This is a damn dream, isn't it." If he accidentally teleported into her dream, he would never forgive myself. The grass beneath him felt real, the gust of wind swaying the branches above side to side appeared real, but dreams were capable of playing tricks, making anything seem like reality when in fact it was nothing but an illusion.
She nibbled at his earlobe. "I have no idea." Her eyes flickered with uncertainty as she pulled back to meet his gaze. Her lips parted, but before she could say anything, he clasped a hand on the back of her neck and pulled her down into a feverish kiss.
He no longer cared if it was a damn dream.
Just all he lost all control, so did she. Their bodies became one, their aromas mixing together. This was fate trying to draw them together, forcing them to do what the moon goddess had decided.
