(PICTURE OF DEVIN ON THE SIDE!!!)
Thursday
Gym was my favorite subject.
Not only because I could show off my athletic abilities, but because Jeanette and I shared the class. I would watch her in her shorts and tank top and love how competitive she got when she played. She would get that game face on, and wipe the sweat off her forehead with the back of her hand. Her black curls would swing in her ponytail and her perky breasts would bounce with every movement she made. I loved the tattoo on the back of her neck. It was of two black roses, vines, and leaves. The roses came together to form a heart. Dark and sexy. She was a sight. I wish she were mine.
I was so excited to see Jeanette after last night. We had some type of trust bond between us. It was special and pure. At least I think so. I wanted to talk to her so bad. To kiss her. I wanted to hold her hands.
As I walked into the gym for 8th period-last period of the day-I knew something was wrong. The girls that were usually in the locker room changing, instead were huddled in the center of the gym. Jeanette was not among them. It was abnormally quiet and there was hostility in the air. The problem made itself known to me within the seconds of my arrival. Jeanette busted out of the girl’s locker room with Devin Marcus-her step brother- following her.
“You will do what I say you ungrateful bitch!” Devin yelled.
Jeanette was standing in front of him now, taking menacing steps toward her brother. “Get the hell out of my face!” she shrieked. Devin didn’t flinch. Instead he flexed his muscles. I tensed.
If there was anyone more badass than Jeanette it was her brother Devin. Devin was super brolic, and muscular beyond belief. He was in and out of Juvie and rumors even said he rapes girls and threatens them into silence. He cut four kids last year with a pocket knife and held two teachers at gunpoint for better grades. How he gets away with it, God knows. His lawyer must be a beast. His reputation made me scared for Jeanette. Devin wouldn’t be afraid to hit her and I knew that. Everyone did.
Mr. Wilbur came in just in time though. Mr. Wilbur was an aged version of Devin. His voice was so deep it made your insides rumble. He was one scary dude. Nobody messed with him.
“What in God’s name is going on in here?” He looked at Devin and sighed, “Mr. Marcus, this is not your P.E. time. Unless you want O.S.S., I will suggest you excuse yourself and leave Ms. Marcus alone.”
Devin stared at Mr. Wilbur and then Jeanette.
“I’ll definitely be seeing you at home…sister.” Devin sauntered out and there was an awkward silence.
“Okay people! Get changed. Problem solved.”
But the problem wasn’t resolved. Jeanette had run out, leaving echoing clanks throughout the gym.
