Brent walked into the boys bathroom and came back with a handful of paper towels. "Here." He said, awkwardly handing them to me. I dabbed the wet spots on my shirt, feeling uncomfortable with him standing there. He was staring at me as if I were from a different planet.
"Why are you staring at me?" I asked.
"Because you're not even acknowledging the fact that I'm a famous viner." He said, still staring at me. "Most girls flip out when they see me and beg for pictures and autographs, but not you. Why is that?"
"Because I'm sure you get tired of it. And besides, you're just a person, like me." I replied. He looked at me in such a way that gave me butterflies. I watched him on vine all the time and I will admit, I did find him extremely attractive. It took everything in me to not have a fangirl attack in the middle of the bookstore. I suddenly snapped out of my thoughts when Brent held out a slip of paper.
"Here." He said. "You can call me if you want, but if you don't I understand."
I took the paper with his phone number scribbled on it with a blue pen and put it in my purse.
"Thanks." I mumbled.
"It was really nice meeting you.." He said. "Wow, I'm sorry. I never asked what your name was."
"Oh, um, it's Cassandra." I said.
"That's a really pretty name." He said, looking down at his feet. "I should go. I'm meeting up with some other viners at Taco Bell."
"Okay, bye." I said.
He grinned awkwardly and walked out of the store. Did I seriously just get Brent Rivera's phone number? Oh. My. God. I quickly pulled out my phone and called Natalie. "Heyy." She said when she answered.
"You will not believe what just happened." I said.
"What?" She asked, eagerly.
"Brent Rivera just gave me his phone number."
She didn't talk for quite a while, but eventually said "meet me at my house ASAP."
"On my way." I said, hanging up the phone. I walked out of the store and into my car. It was only a five minute drive to her house from the Barnes and Noble. When I arrived I walked up the stairs to her room. I was at her house so much, her parents gave me a key so I could let myself in anytime I wanted. She was sitting in a chair in front of her computer, as usual. I cleared my throat and she quickly turned around. She squealed with excitement when she saw me.
"Tell me everything." She said, pulling me over to her bed. We sat down and I told her the whole story. When I finished, she sat there, staring at me in awe, the way I did when she was talking to Matthew.
"He is totally into you." She said after a while.
"Why would a guy like him like a girl like me?" I asked, gesturing to my glasses and tight bun.
"Why not?" She asked.
I sighed and took out my phone. I desperately wanted to call him, but I didn't want to seem pushy.
"When should I call him?" I asked.
"Certainly not right now." She said. "How about tomorrow, a little before noon, so then he might ask you out lunch?" She suggested.
"Natalie, you are a genius." I said, hugging her.
"You're welcome." She said, playfully. I checked the time on my phone. It was almost nine and my mom would kill me if I weren't home by ten.
"I have to go." I said. "I'll see you later."
"Bye! Tell me how it goes with Brent!" She said, walking me out the door.
When I got home, my mom was sitting on the couch, reading.
"Hi mom." I said.
"Hi sweetie." She said, peering over her book.
"I'm pretty tired, so I'm gonna head up to bed." I said, yawning.
"Alright." She said. "I love you. And don't forget to brush your teeth!" She called as I ascended the staircase. I rolled my eyes and got ready for bed.
When I settled down, I sat my phone on the bedside table. I stared at it, imagining how the phone call with Brent would go. I smiled and slowly fell asleep.
