Green really didn't want to be here.

As he watches Blue walk up the petal-covered aisle in a flowing white dress, he feels his chest clench. He should be happy, but it's painful, watching the person he loves get married to another.

He bites his tongue to keep from crying, taking shuddering breathes so he wouldn't erupt in sobs. Maybe the people next to him would think he was shaking in happiness or something.

Daisy knew better. She'd been here for him when he'd lost the championships so many years ago, too. She gently rubs circles on his back, trying to comfort him.

It wasn't really helping though, Green notes duly as Blue steps up to greet the man in the tuxedo.

To greet Red

The red-eyed man looks handsome in the tuxedo, the stiff fabric hanging onto him in a way that makes him look bigger than he actually is.

But Green knows how skinny he is under the tuxedo, from years spent on the top of Mt. Silver, deprived of food and warmth. He'd gone up there so many times to convince his rival to come down, met with refusal each time.

It turns out all it took to get Red down the mountain was Blue.

He supposes Blue must've proposed or something, because down from the mountain Red came, and his happiness was immediately crushed by a marriage announcement to all of Pallet Town, who hollered and cheered.

Green didn't cheer.

And then the months went by, and now he was watching Red get married to a girl.

At least he never had to wonder about Red's sexuality anymore.

He didn't have an Ice-types chance in hell (I stole this from some video I take no credit for this) with Red, who was clearly straight and not interested in him.

Blue steps up to the podium, eyes scanning carefully over the crowd before landing on Green. He sees them widen a fraction before she's forced to turn to take her vows.

Professor Oak was up there, looking ridiculous in his tuxedo as he read out the vows or something. Green wasn't really paying attention.

"I do." Red says firmly, and Green bites his lip, almost drawing blood.

Red had never spoken more than one word to him on the top of Mt. Silver, and even then, it was just a "Yes" or a "No". But of course he would do his best for Blue.

Green wasn't even good enough to be Red's best man.

It was fricken Gold.

That kid that beat him one time on the top of Mt. Silver.

Gold, like Blue, looked at him and gave him the pity eyes.

"You may now kiss the bride."

Green couldn't look away. Granted, he didn't really get a good look anyways, but it sure looked like Red had kissed Blue, even though they'd turned so nobody could really see.

Blue was probably respecting Red's wishes for privacy.

He twisted his hand into his shirt, chest aching. It felt like a lump of words was trying to make its way up his throat, but he forces it down and keeps his mouth shut, afraid of what stupid things he would say when the seal on them opens.

But he managed somehow.

The crowd cheers, faces bright. He wants to stand, pretend that he's also happy, but he feels nauseous.

Green had made it through the ceremony.

Now he just needed to get through the after-party.

Red and Blue separated from each other, and with a smile, Blue threw her bouquet of flowers into the air. She missed terrible and somehow Green caught it.

The crowd turned and hollered in laughter, but Green just wanted the day to be over already, so he could curl up in his bed and cry without anyone seeing. Having the entirety of Pallet Town laugh at the absurdity that he caught the bouquet wasn't really helping, either.

Daisy squeezed his hand under the chairs.

He glanced up to see the furrowed brows of Blue and concerned gaze of Gold, and immediately looked down.

Blue seemed to notice, and diverted the crowd's attention to her once again.

"We hope you'll stay for the after party!" She announced brightly, met with agreements throughout the room.

Green was obligated to stay for the after party, since his Grandfather had oh-so-kindly informed him that he was "very disappointed" with the way Green was acting in the recent months.

The old fart had thought that Green was moping over Blue

Better than realizing he was gay, though.

The rest of the time passed in a blur, and Green found himself surrounded by reporters who had somehow snuck into the after-party.

"How long have Red and Blue been together?" They'd pestered, before being forced out by a horde of angry pokemon owned by Red and Gold.

The question haunted Green, because he didn't know

Green makes sure to stay far, far away from the alcohol, and mostly hung around the tables holding food, stuffing his face to drown out the sorrows.

He could always use the more effective beverage later, after asking Daisy to lock up his phone somewhere so he did't accidentally call Red and confess his love to him in a drunken stupor.

A few people pass by and tease him about his hogging of the food, to which he good-naturedly replies "shut up".

Red approaches him during his binge with a tap on his shoulder, and Green almost chokes.

"Hey, don't scare me like that," he manages to croak out, turning to face Red after swallowing his mouthful of food.

Red eyes look at him without amusement.

Green laughs awkwardly. "So, married, huh?"

A nod.

"Congrats, dude, I..." he swallows the lump in his throat, "I always knew that you two would, y'know, end up together."

Another awkward laugh, and Red looks away.

"Oh."

Then he leaves, and Green feels like shit.

Red must've known that he was a liar.

Green didn't stay after that.

He rushes out into the hallways, shoulders shaking as he strides towards the exit of the venue.

He reaches for the pokeball of Pigeot, which he'd brought with him just in case he needed to make a getaway, and calls him out.

The pokemon caws at him gently before letting him onto its back. Green clings onto it, feeling his pokemon shift uncomfortable. He buries his face into the soft feathers, half apologetic, half hiding, and when they reach the top, Green starts sobbing.

He was so pathetic.
