Eric came into the dorms at six o'clock this morning and woke me up before the others. Our test wasn't until eight, so I woke up dazed and confused. Then I remembered we were meeting with Jeanine today. She was showing us the serum for the first time. The serum that would control the Dauntless, and reveal the Divergents. I grabbed a sweater and we went out to the loading dock. There, I saw Erudite and Dauntless both loading things off a sleek trailer. There were guns and computers. Max had shown Eric and I the newly made and secret Erudite section of Dauntless. It wasn't much, just a few rooms. This was the last loading day. We had all the supplies we needed and were nearly ready. Just a few last touches and a bit more security.
Eric and I walked up to Jeanine, who was in a blue pant suit. She was looking around and taking notes on her tablet, when she noticed us. "Ah, Alexa. Eric. Today's the last shipment day. Tomorrow, a new world will be put into place. I just have to thank you both. You are my most faithful and fruitful followers. I will never forget that, so be expecting good things in the future."
I felt pride swell in my chest. Then I felt guilty because I knew I was technically betraying Jeanine by keeping Tris's Divergence a secret. I knew what we were doing was the right thing... mostly. I knew there were Divergents like Tris, who weren't a threat. However, she must not have a high percentage of Divergence. I didn't even notice until I heard her admit it to her mother. Others... They needed to be exterminated.
As Jeanine and Eric spoke about final preparations, I caught movement in the upper left corner of my eye. I looked up and saw a flash of light brown hair. I walked to the left to get a better look, but stopped dead in my tracks. On the roof of the training compound, I Tris with Four, who was holding a vile of our serum. I growled under my breath, debating what I should do. I looked away, not wanting anyone to look that way either. I said I would protect Tris. I promised. I guess that includes when Four is involved. No matter how much I hate him.
I walked back over to Jeanine and Eric. We talked for another ten minutes before an announcement came over the loading dock speakers. "Attention. All initiates report for final testing."
Jeanine, Eric and I headed towards the testing auditorium. At the entrance, Jeanine went to the other Erudite ambassadors. I was going to go to the waiting room, when I felt Eric grab my hand and spin me back around. He slammed his lips onto mine and gave a slow and lingering kiss. When we broke apart I smiled. "What was that for?"
He kissed my forehead, "For good luck. It's not like you need it though."
I laughed and we said our goodbyes. I ran into the testing room, quickly finding Christina. Tris still wasn't here, but I was glad. I was still angry that I couldn't bust Four because Tris was with him. Hopefully, I go into testing before her, and don't see her until after. Hopefully I did, so I could hurry up and forgive her.

I was called third, and Tris was still nowhere to be seen. Thankfully. I walked up to the platform, catching Eric's eye for a brief moment. Then I turned away from him and sat in the glowing orange chair. I saw Four come up with the needle. As he prepared the needle I smirked at him. "So Four, how is the weather today?"
His face held no emotion, "I wouldn't know. I woke up right before I had to be here."
He pressed the needle into my neck. I brought my brows together in fake confusion. "Really? Must have been mistaken. I saw this guy on the roof with some blonde chick. They were really close it looked like. I thought it might be you and Tris."
He paused for a split second once I mentions Tris's name, but he quickly injected the serum into me. I winced, "Woah, harsh. It was an honest mistake. Didn't mean to upset you. Oh yeah, by the way Four, how do you spell.... Divergent?"
The last thing I saw was fear flashing across his eyes before I blinked one last time, and the scenery around me changed.
I was back in the Candor auditorium. I immediately felt the absence of a sling on my left arm. I twisted it around and moved it freely. I was about to celebrate before I looked up, only to see the same middle aged man from before. He spoke harshly, "Tell us the truth! Or she dies!"
I whipped my head around at the sound of a safety being released. I saw the same Dauntless man holding someone dear to me. However now, instead of Abbey, I saw Tris. I turned back to the man and glared, "What do you want to know?"
He smirked, "You know."
I frowned, "When I was eleven, my best friend Iris and I hopped on a train that was heading into the city. When she leaned out the door to look at the view of the city below, we hit a bump on the track. She fell out of the car. I thought she would just fall to the ground. However, her arm caught on the tracks and the train dragged her along for a long time. I just watched her. I didn't scream or anything. By the time the train stopped, her body had been thrown off somewhere along the way. I jumped off and went home. I didn't tell anyone. It turns out, when someone found her hours later, she was still alive. She died the next day. If I had told someone, she might still be alive."
Immediately after I said the last word, the room changed. I was now outside, in the Amity fields. I smiled and breathed in the fresh air. Then, I felt something bite me. I winced and went to smack it. Then I felt another on my arm. Then my leg. Then my face. Suddenly a whole swarm of bugs was clouding around me. I searched desperately, before finding the pond on the outside of the Amity field. I dove in, but when I came up, I was in the cave pool back in Dauntless.
I looked around me to see a crowd of Dauntless shouting at me, telling me to die. Then I looked to my right and saw Four. He smirked at me before grabbing my hair and then forcing me under the water. I gagged underneath and fought for a few moments before realizing I needed a new strategy. I looked down and saw a rock at the bottom of the pool. I reached for it and after a few moments I finally wrapped my fingers around it. I brought my knees to my chest and kicked Four in his chest. He released me for a moment, but went to grab me again. I raised the rock and proceeded to bash his head in. I held no mercy and kept hitting him while I watched the crystal blue water mix with his blood. I blinked and I was bashing the ground with my fist.
I stopped as soon as I realized that I was no longer in immediate danger. I turned to see Eric on his knees. There I saw Tris a few steps away from him, pointing a gun at his head. I immediately scrambled to my feet and tried to run to him, but Christina and Will grabbed me, restraining me. I watched as Tris released the safety. I growled and fiercely kicked Christina's shin. She cried out and released my right arm. I grabbed Will's wrist and twisted it until I heard a sickening crack. I saw Tris raising the gun to aim. I threw myself between the gun and Eric. "NO!"
A single fire sounded, and instead of feeling pain, I fell to the ground. I huffed as my body collided with the floor. I shot up and tried to get back to Eric, but he was gone. I was in Erudite. I looked ahead of me. I was in a line. At the top of the line, people were being handed machine guns. I realized people from every Faction were in the line. I made my way to the front and was handed a gun. I took it and readied it. As I did, Max was standing there explaining what we were supposed to do. Three more kids joined the group, then they closed it off. I looked up at Max and listened. "The Factionless population has grown too much. We must glean at least half of them. You will kill every single one you see, no matter what. Proceed. A door opened and it revealed us to be right in the middle of Factionless territory. I raised my gun and ran out with the others. I shot down every Factionless I saw. I turned a corner and spotted a Factionless digging in a trashcan. I was about to shoot before they turned around. It was Tanner, my younger cousin. Another one rounded the corner and revealed herself to be Hailey, his twin. I closed my eyes before taking a deep breath and remembering orders. 'No matter what." I put a bullet through both of their heads without a second thought.
I shot up in the testing chair, gasping for air. Eric was the one who came over and calmed me down. I looked at the clock. Seven minutes. I smiled and wrapped my arms around Eric's neck. I didn't care if anyone knew now. There was no way I wasn't getting first place. I'd worked so hard. Now, it paid off. Jeanine gave me a proud nod, and Eric led me out of the auditorium. I knew I had made it. Now, I needed to plan for tomorrow.
