Lyra lay on her couch later that night, her head resting in Chris' lap. He stroked her hair slowly in a way that made her feel sleepy.
They were technically watching a movie, but she couldn't have told you the plot for a million dollars. She'd spent the entirely of it switching between gazing up at him to admire him and dozing off because of the mixture of how early she'd gotten up and how much she loved him playing with her hair.
The more she looked at him in the moments when she was awake, the more admiration she felt for him and the more she realized that Sebastian had been right about something else he'd said in the car on the way to the airport that morning. He'd been absolutely right about the fact that she, despite herself, was falling in love with Chris and had been since the night of the premiere.
She had the sudden urge to tell him but couldn't decide if it would be weird or not. Sure, they'd kissed for the first time that morning but they'd been flirty and for all intents and purposes practically a couple for six months.
Finally, she decided to treat it like she'd treated the kiss that morning. She was just going to say it and see what happened.
"Chris?" she questioned his name quietly and he paused the movie, looking down at her.
"Yeah, angel?" he questioned back, using a pet name he'd starting using for her in private months before. Come to think of it, she probably definitely should've known he was interested in her.
"I... you're really amazing, okay?" she said, stumbling over her words in a way that made her feel like she was probably blushing. He beamed at her, his eyes bright.
"You're really amazing too," he told her, taking her hands and pulling her up into a sitting position. He scooted close to her and she took in his woodsy cologne, reveling in the scent of it. He always smelled so good that it almost made her dizzy.
He reached up and stroked her cheek gently, his thumb working slow circles on her skin.
"Can I tell you a secret?" she asked, and he smiled again and nodded. She waggled her finger, motioning for him to come closer. He did and she leaned in to whisper in his ear. "I'm falling in love with you," she told him, watching in a satisfied manner as she could visibly see goosebumps raise on his neck.
He didn't answer. Instead, he pulled her close and kissed her gently, sweetly. Butterflies soared in her stomach as she wrapped her arms around him, running one hand over his back and tangling the other in his hair.
His kiss deepened, his teeth grazing her bottom lip and she moaned just slightly, unable to stop herself. He smiled into the kiss, leaving her lips to trace delicate nibbles down her jawline and the side of her neck. She leaned into him, smiling as his eyes appeared level with hers again.
"I'm not falling in love with you," he said, his voice low and dark with passion. She looked at him, knowing by his expression that that couldn't be the end of his statement. "I'm already in love with you. You've got me. I don't really know how it happened, but I'm yours, angel, all yours. I love you," he told her, his expression automatically switching to one of concern when he noticed the tears that had formed in her eyes. She shook her head, smiling.
