thud.
that's the sound that noelle heard from the baseball field to the left of her. she whipped her head to the side, her ears instantly tuning in to whatever the commotion was, yet, there was no one there. in fact, no one had stepped foot onto the wrigley baseball field since september and it was now the beginning of march.
curious as to what the noise was, as she's always been a curious girl, noelle walked through an opening in the chain link fence, and the wind bit at her face as she saw something lying in the middle of the sand pit. her dark hair whirled around her face, most of it having fallen out of the ponytail that she strategically put up this morning before school.
"hello?" her voice cracks, and she runs her tongue over her chapped lips. i really need chapstick, she thinks as she approaches the figure.
"ugh." it groans, and moves. it moves almost as slow as a tortoise, and her heart stops for a moment, as well as her feet. suddenly, the figure raises its head, and noelle realizes that it's a person. a real person that seemed to come out nowhere.
"h-hello?" the girl asks once again. as she gets closer, she sees that the person is a male, and that makes her swallow hard. he's got disheveled, dark hair and these dark eyes that seem to hypnotize her for a moment.
"w-where am i?" he asks, seeming quite unsure of himself and his surroundings. noelle stops walking about three feet away from him, putting her hands in the pockets of her soft cardigan that her mother had gotten her for christmas.
suddenly, the boy looks at her, startled, and backs away as if he's scared. she furrows her brows in confusion, and he mirrors the expression.
"who are you?" she asks, cocking her head to the side.
"ethan." he replies steadily, still on the ground. her eyes scan his appearance. he's wearing a pair of khaki pants and a dress shirt that looks as though it costed nearly hundreds of dollars.
"i'm noelle...." she trails off as his gaze follows hers. the girls looks up at the dreary sky and then back to him.
"you....you did not just fall out of the sky."
"did i?" ethan asks, scratching his head and looking up. then he looks back at noelle and carefully stands up as if he doesn't know how.
"huh..." suddenly, his expression changes dramatically, like he just got the best idea in the whole world.
"is there a....well....um...a place that i can...inspect myself?"
noelle is taking aback by his question, as her mind goes to the dirtiest thing she could possibly think of. he's probably much more innocent than that.
"yes, actually. follow me, ethan."
