The ceiling fan in the precinct office spun slowly. Jongdae sighed as he stared at it. His feet propped on the desk, he glanced at the closed files.
The three murders yesterday...everything about it was just off. The bodies... He took out a picture from the top file and looked at it carefully. They were so beaten that they barely looked human. Multiple stab wounds, fingers were severed. One of the victims was missing an eye...
Whoever did this is a pure monster...
"And I have to be the hero to catch this guy," Jongdae murmured to himself. "For Minseok."
For Minseok...
He sighed. Jongdae hated how his job could get so grueling. Murders have been popping up a lot lately. It's getting dangerous in this city. Maybe I could transfer...
"Yah, Jongdae," His partner, Park Chanyeol called for him from the next desk over. "Lost in your thoughts again, I see."
"Yeah..." Jongdae trailed off, thinking of his beloved Minseok's safety. He glanced to Chanyeol, who was beaming like always. "I want to transfer to another city."
"What?!" Chanyeol exclaimed, reviving a glare from his partner. He then whispered, "Why?"
"Chanyeol, there have been murders all over Seoul. Don't you think that's dangerous for a kid like Minseok?"
"Ah, Minseok." Chanyeol cooed, thinking of Jongdae's only child. "He's such a sweet little boy. Remember when it was Fathers Day, and he drew that picture of the two of you?"
"I still have it framed on my nightstand." He couldn't think of a second when he didn't think of his beautiful son. "I want to keep him safe..." Jongdae trailed off.
"I know, Dae." Chanyeol gave him a warm smiled. "That child means everything to you. And it's out job to keep him safe, with the rest of Seoul." He put a hand on his partner's shoulder. "You don't have to worry so much. Murder happens all the time, you should understand this by now."
He was right. Jongdae had worked at the precinct for nearly seven years now. From a rookie cop to a homicide detective, he had learned that murder in Seoul was all too common. "You're right." He sighed, raking a stressed hand through his black hair. "We keep this city safe. For Minseok."
For Minseok...
"Now, what did you get on those three that were murdered last night?"
Jongdae reached for his files, his mind quickly shifting back to his work. "Junmyeon gave me the autopsy reports a few hours ago. The cause of death were stab wounds. To the heart."
Chanyeol's eyes grow wide as he rolls his chair closer to Jongdae's desk. "Really?" He said in disbelief. "So...the other wounds..."
"According to Jun, they happened after the victims died."
Chanyeol swallowed. It always amused Jongdae that his partner would get grossed out about these things. "Do you think," He started slowly. "That this guys could be a...serial killer?"
"Hm," Jongdae didn't want to think about that. "Maybe. We won't know until we find him."
"That's true." Chanyeol put a hand on his partner's shoulder. "Don't worry about Minseok. He'll be fine. I promise." He said with a squeeze.
"I'm not." Jongdae lied. "I'm just-"
"Dae!" The two looked up the stairs on the wall to find the voice. Standing in the doorway was Chief Wu Yifan. His sleeves were rolled up and his arms were crossed. He glared at Jongdae when he said, "My office. Now." He walked back into his office, slamming the door.
