 “God has mercifully ordered that the human brain works slowly; first the blow, hours afterwards the bruise.”

 Chapter 3

Aiden

Shocked, that was the word that described my feelings right now. I stared at her for what seemed like hours. She had shorter hair and a fit physique. Her hair was now a dark brown, almost black, and a hair style I don’t know.

“You do know staring is rude.” sated Cassandra.

“Ye-yeah.” Why was I stuttering? Is it because I’m nervous? Maybe because it is hot in here? It was probably the drinks. Nope I only had one drink. Maybe I’m sick? Did I eat something bad? Thoughts were running in my head when it was suddenly cut by someone clearing his throat.

Get a grip Aiden. It is only Cass.

“I’m Cassandra, Cassandra Grey. You know from the Knight Global Hotel Groups.”

I was about to reply when a thought came up. Why was she introducing herself? Then someone suddenly tapped my shoulder. It was Kyla.

“Hey Aiden could we talk.”

“Yeah sure, if it’s okay with Cassandra.”

“Yeah it’s alright.” Cass replied sincerely but I didn’t miss the hint curiousness in her voice.

Kyla immediately pulled me away from their small group in a rush. She pulled me outside the noisy club and as the cold wind hit me, goose bumps filled my arms. We went to the parking lot which was quiet and the only lighting was a street lamp. It was creepy but not scary, it was like someone was following us.

“I won’t beat around the bush, I will be straight forward.” Kyla started.

“Okay. Shoot.”

“Cassandra doesn’t remember you. Actually not only you but a bunch of other people too.”

I was shocked again to say at least but I somehow recovered immediately.

“Why?” I tried to sound calm and I pulled it off. I also put a neutral expression to hide my curiosity.  Suddenly remembered my promise and what she did to me. The misery she put me in.

She was about to answer when I cut her off. “Why do I even care? Did she care about me when she left?”

She was about to answer again when I cut her off again. “You know what? I don’t care. Why did she even come back?” With that I walked away from her and towards the club entrance.

I started looking for Seth when I bumped into a guy. It was the guy Kyla and Cassandra was with. I was shorter than him by a few inches. He had jet black hair, gelled in the right places, kind of like a Morrissey hair. It made him look taller but just by a few inches. He was also tan by the way.

“Hey, you're Kyla’s friend right?” he asked in an obvious British accent. What is up with me meeting Brits today?

I ignored his question because 1.) I wasn’t really Kyla’s friend, 2.) I don’t like him. 3.) I was rushing to find Seth and 4.) I just really don’t like him. I walked away in a rush pretending that I didn’t hear him.

~~~~~~~
After what seemed like an eternity but was only about 10 minutes, I finally found Seth drinking near the bar counter. You could say that I am an impatient man because I really am.
“Seth lets go.” I said in an impatient tone.
“Aaaiiiidddeeennn, my main man. My hommie. My mother from another mother. My bro, my co-worker, my bestfriend. What’zz up?” He replied in a drunk voice.
Oh no. This is not happening. I said to myself. Let me tell you something, Seth plus alcohol equals a sack of rocks. A  sack of rocks doesn’t walk so that’s the point. He was a heavy man that couldn’t walk. He also couldn’t talk properly or see properly. I only had 2 options, leave him here or call his parents and watch them get mad at Seth and laugh. I decided that the second option was the best so I took my phone out of my pocket. I was about to dial Mrs.Ackerman when a voice interrupted me.
“Hey, we meet again.” It was Cassandra so I ignored her.
“I said, hey we meet again.”
“Could you just go, I’m dealing with a problem right now.”  I said in an irritated tone.
“Can I help.” She said in a hopeful voice.
“I don’t need your help.”  I said hoping that she would just go away.
“Come on at least let me know.” I was too tired to argue so I told her.
“Well I think the only option is to carry him to your car.” She said in a confident tone.
“Come on. I’ll carry his legs, you carry his torso and head. Okay?”
“What ever, let’s just get over this.” I said.
“One, two, three, lift!” She instructed.
I was carrying his upper body and she was carrying his lower. Let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. We rushed to my car and when we were near the door, Cass suddenly dropped Seth’s legs in a not so gentle way. So I ended up falling too.  With him on top of me I groaned in pain.
“Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry.” She said her hand covering her mouth, trying to hold back a giggle but she failed miserably.
“You think it’s funny.” I said in a serious tone.
“No sir!” She said imitating a soldier jokingly.
I couldn’t hold back the chuckle so we both laughed hard on the streets while people looked at us weirdly. I mean who wouldn’t. I had an unconscious man on top off me and a girl was grabbing the street lamp and clutching her stomach while laughing.
“Okay, let’s stop. I’ll leave the car door open then after that I will help you lift him. Okay?” She suddenly said.
“Okay, let’s do this.” I said with determination.
“One, two, three, lift!” We did what she said to do. After we tossed him at the back seat and we laughed again.
“That was nice.” I said, completely forgetting my irritation a while ago.
“Yeah it was.” She said still laughing.
We heard a loud fart but not just one or two but three consecutive loud farts, we looked at each other then we looked at Seth. Then we both laughed hard until both of us fell on the sidewalk.
“What the hell was that.” She said.
“That was his Mom’s cooking.” I said jokingly.
We continued to laugh more until we decided that it was enough. So we bid our farewells and parted.
~~~~~~

While driving I suddenly remembered that I was supposed to hate her not laugh with her. I kept on thinking about the event that happened a while ago. I was actually having fun with her. I mentally beat myself up for feeling that way. As I arrived in my driveway, I thought about a plan. It was risky but it would surely hurt her. It was the perfect plan to destroy Cassandra.

I won’t fall for you again.
