curro - I run

I'm walking down the street with my mates. One boy leads, bantering with the two lads flanking him. The rest of the group gather and follow the boy - the 'Leader.'  I'm the new kid so I'm at the back. Apparently, I have to 'prove myself' to get in with the rest.

The leader's fed up with hanging around the town centre. He waves to everyone and within moments they surround him. I'm last so his mates snort at me, as if they are pigs. After all, I’m the runt.

I know they aren't treating me well. He will do once I've proved myself. I know what I'll do - then they'll respect me. They'd better.

He tells everyone that we're heading to the Triangle. I'm new here - I've no idea what he's banging on about. However, before I know it they bind my wrists together, put a 'fold over my eyes and take me to this place, the 'Triangle', or whatever they call it. They could've at least come up with a better name.

They make me walk, so I trip over rocks and stuff as I walk. They laugh. I want to hurt them but I can't. Not now.

After a long time, they push me over a metal bar and remove the binding cloth. With my free hands, I pull off the blindfold. And yell curses at them. They've trapped me.

I'm on a triangular plate. It's made of steel or tin - something like that. Surrounding it is a metal fence. And guess who're at the fence giving me no room to escape? They're looking at me. Their faces glare at me, waiting for me to make a move. Egging me on.

Something flicks on inside me. I don't want to be treated like some prisoner. I roll my shoulders back and rub my hands together. The leader and the followers laugh at me, mock me. Not for long.

A flick of my wrists is all it takes. That's all that I need to release electricity from my hand and into them. They don't see it coming either. I've shocked them physically and mentally. Their eyes are literally glazed over with shock.

I walk over to the edge of the fence and wave my hand in front of them. Without the energy, of course. No response from him. There isn't from any of the others. Hang on, there's a guy... He hits the ground before I finish that thought.

My reflexes were too fast for him.

A pang of sorrow hits me as I realise what's happened. I've killed them. No guilt hits - they deserved it. But it's happened too many times. I know what to do. I pick my way out and run. Just like I always do.
