the second school was out, joji rushed out of his class to the large space in front of the doors. he knew on thursdays amy finished classes early, so he ran towards their usual meet up point.
except when he reached, amy wasn't there. his eyebrows furrowed, feeling a pit in his stomach at the thought that she might have ditched him. he looked around and over the shoulders of people who were exiting the school premises.
when his eyes landed on the dark honey curly hair he grew to love, he could feel his stomach lifting. that feeling didn't last long when he noticed she was holding someone else's hand.
andrew.
"hey joj," she smiled, letting go of the other guys hand to hug her best friend, who returned the hug, giving the other one a glare.
"hey ames," he glanced at her with his eyes the softest they could ever be, in contrast to how he was looking at andrew earlier.
"andrew," joji nodded, earning a nod from the slightly taller guy.
"so, are we rea—" george was cut off when andrew spoke, igniting a mix between anger and hatred inside him.
"bye, babygirl," andrew pulled amy by her waist, pushing their bodies together in ways that made george fume.
andrew pressed a sloppy halfhearted kiss to the raven haired boy's best friend's lips, making her giggle lightly and push him away by pressing her palms to his chest.
after the small gross-fest, as joji called it in his head, andrew walked away, hooting to his other friends who were sat in a drop top, then joined them and drove off.
joji scoffed as him and amy started walking to the park, on their usual route. he crossed his arms over his chest, looking down at the ground ahead of his feet. he hated seeing amy be so intimate with someone he knew would hurt her. he hated not telling her how he felt that night they kissed at his place. he hated letting them get distant in the past months.
amy broke his string of thought, nudging him in the shoulder with her own. "hey, what's up?" she questioned.
"hm? oh— nothing. listen, amy," he spoke quickly, avoiding the question she asked earlier.
"i'm sorry about everything that happened, i, i don't know, i just thought you didn't like the shit i film or like—"
"how would i hate it when i used to be the one to film you?" she laughed, shrugging after her rhetorical question.
"i don't know, scratch that then." joji started feeling nervous for some reason, and couldn't get his words out.
silence grew between the two until they crossed through the gates of the park they went to since they were preteens.
"i got accepted into that university in new york," he finally spoke.
"no way!" amy exclaimed, stopping in her tracks to look at him, wide eyed. "oh my god, george! that's amazing! i didn't check my email i should do that later, but man i can't wait for us to go to uni together!"
joji watched amy's excitement and couldn't help but smile. he felt like at that moment, he just wanted to engulf her in kisses and hugs and everything he had to offer.
"its all thanks to that essay you wrote," he smiled, opening his arms up for a hug which she quickly took.
later they strolled around more, talking about university and a bunch of stuff that's been happening while the two were away from one another.
joji enjoyed every second of amy's weird stories and thoughts. he watched intently while she spoke with such passion even when it came to the smallest things like how her mom would sometimes mistake her name for joji's. her laugh made him laugh and her questions made him wonder all about the things she'd talk about.
