Poem: Drums

In honor of a Valentines Day writing competition. It's late for the holiday, but I still think it's alright to share, right?

Drums

This beating heart of mine is free,

That you will not take from me.

What right have you to steal my mind,

When my thoughts have made me blind?

Your flow'ry words now fill my head

And leaden down my heart with dread.

These feelings steal away from me

My individuality.

I blame this heart that leaves me weak

To your silver tongue and speech.

Not hell beneath, not heav'n above,

I won't admit that I'm in love.
