In The Dark

She hides behind the doors of her room,

to shield herself from the chaos of doom.

To hide the hurt, she brings the blade close to the flesh of skin

drawings pictures and curse burns

Day after day she cries in secret late at night,

headaches take place in her mind distracting her from the pain.

She pleads on her knees,

praying for shelter from the storm,

but instead of hearing answers she hears more hurt

it escapes through the tattered chains holding her down.

She wants to look up into the eye of the storm

to see the sun once more to catch a glimpse of light,

but its impossible for it reach where she is in this old night.

The jagged edge of the blade strikes down,

she bleeds like a river of red, not something new to a world driven in dread.

Every day she screams in the darkness to finally let her go,

can't it see the way she's in,

down to nothing but skin and bone,

she can't hold herself up anymore,

she's lost her hold.

She wishes on invisible stars to release the pain where the words have made their scars.
