The next day had been quite a surprise for both girls. Cheryl who was fashionably late to first period English had walked in the school doors at exactly the same time as the other female who she claimed to despise. They both looked at each other up and down not realizing they were literally checking one another out. When their eyes landed on the other's face they looked away quickly and headed down to their class. Toni had gotten to their class first with Cheryl just a few steps behind.
"Are you following me?" Toni asked curiously not really meaning the question.
""ME? No! I'm in this class genius." Cheryl denied immediately.
"Oh no, it was bad enough that I had to be in the same school as the devil now I'm in your class."
"Are you calling me the devil?" Cheryl asked with a slight gasp.
"I'm pretty sure everyone does." Toni answered her.
Cheryl thought she should've been angry but she was slightly amused and judging by Toni's smile she was too. They were smiling at each other entertained by their playful banter until Mr. Gray opened the door, which ultimately broke them out of their trance.
"Girls, are you planning to come in anytime soon?"
The two exchanged their apologies to their english teacher and headed in the classroom.
"Okay class, we're watching Romeo and Juliet today because I assume you've all finished the book. And I don't really want to teach you today. Oh and before anyone asks we are not watching the one with Leonardo Dicaprio, sorry to disappoint Kevin." He smiled at Kevin who seemed un amused by his joke. Clearing his throat he continued, "Anyways does anyone have any comments about the book before we start?" Mr. Gray told the class who barely paid any attention to him.
"I personally loved the story. One of the greater romances, Shakespeare should be proud." Toni rolled her eyes, of course Cheryl had to suck up to their teacher who didn't look like he cared. Toni decided to raise her hand and share her opinion, simply because she genuinely enjoyed ticking the girl off.
"Yes Toni?"
"I actually disagree with Cheryl. Romeo and Juliet barely knew each other, their romance was 100% based off of looks. They were stupid teenagers willing to die for each other without even really knowing the other." Toni exclaimed as she looked at the cheerleader the entire time.
"You're just a bitter snake who's never loved anyone." Cheryl muttered not really meaning anything she said.
"Really? Cause it seems like you're the one who's never been loved by anyone except for your Prada bags." Toni regretted her words immediately as soon as she saw Cheryl's face change slightly from a smirk to slight sadness that instantly altered back to a scowl. She didn't know how much her words hit close to home.
Throughout the movie Cheryl glared at Toni while she slightly reciprocated the staring contest. Everyone noticed the tension but chose to ignore it because no one really cared enough to pay attention to them. Toni realized how childish they were being and finally looked away, the other girl was slightly disappointed she had done that.
The serpent had surprised Ms. Wu in gym class with her apparent skills in gymnastics. Her gym teacher was thoroughly impressed and asked her to come see her after class. Toni walked into Wu's office expecting to be in trouble considering she was a Southsider and the principal was there beside her gym teacher.
"You wanted to see me?" She asked quite shyly.
"Ah yes, Ms. Topaz, principal Weatherbee and I think it'd be a fantastic idea if you joined the River Vixens, because you seem to have outstanding potential in cheer leading." Ms. Wu assured her.
