Prolouge

Alena's howls echoed into the dark cold night. Crying out with every breath she could spare while running for her life. Her heart pounded as if it would burst through her chest. Her gorgeous silver-and-white fur was now matted with mud, sweat, and blood which was being ripped by the claws of dead branches as she tore through the blighted forest.

A lightning bolt split the moonless sky it seemed to come straight up from the ground somewhere directly behind her! Only once did she hazard a glance backwards at her pursuers and paid dearly for her curiosity with a second blinding flash of light that seared her eyes. Howling in agony she lost her footing and went crashing against the hard jagged ground.

Pitch-black figures fanned out of the grey night, all around her golden eyes flashing dangerously-the mysterious hunters closing in for the kill, There were dozens of them brandishing weapons of wood and fire. Limping now Alena fought the pain and exhaustion to force herself to continue onward to warn Certus,Darius and the rest of the pack. But there wasn't any breath left in her lungs to call out a warning . Still her mind begged for the pack to stay away,to save themselves.

Alena's last cry echoed into the night like a breaking wave and faded into an ocean of time before finally the impending darkness swept over her.
