The Capture
The leader of the wolves sat alone on the hill. Tilting his head towards the moon. The mighty pack leader tried to draw strength from his ancestors. Once there had been tens of thousands of them, now the pack only numbered by the hundreds. The wolves had been hunted, feared as enimies and slautered by the creatures that have risen from the shadows of the darkness. With his ears laid back he now felt what his ancestors had once felt long ago. He now knew what they had known. The wolves were strong and proud protectors then and now they were gaurdians.
At long last Certus opened his piercing green eyes. The once magnifecent forest that lay before him now layed in ruins devoied of trees and grass, burned and scarred. He howled into the night crying for what was lost. For a brief moment his cry lingered echoing across the forest. Then again all was silent.
The fur on the back of neck suddenly stood on end. He sniffed the air, something definetly smelled foul. Just then a low howl interupted his thoughts as another wolf came running through the brush. "Come quickly," he called "The pack is under attack!" The leader leaped to his feet and faced his fellow pack-mate. "Who dares attack us?!" He asked "I do." the traitor replied, fiercely baring its long sharp teeth.
Certus tensed but before he could move a searing pain lanced across his shoulder. He fell to his knees as the pain washed over him in waves of agony. Snarling and out of breath he saw the Pixis appear as if out of nowhere, eyes gleaming, glaring, menacing golden amber eyes. They wore leather armor they also held numerous weapons that dripped with venomous poison they were walking nightmares.
Ropes could not hold him even this traitor should know that. A large net flew over him. He felt fire in his side, tightening arond his neck. Certus desperatly tried to fight his way out but every struggle increased the nets hold upon him. His haunches were then caught and pulled tight slamming him onto the ground. "Darius!,Alena!" Certus howled in frustration "Where are you?" "Save your breath," the other wolf snarled. "They're not coming,we've disposed of them and the rest of the pack. Your the last one left."
The Pixis shouted in oblique, rough tounge as they encircled him. Certus made no further movements to escape, knowing that they would only suffocate him. He slowed his breathing and began to move his mind away from the pain that now engulfed him. Growling low he moved his head trying to see past the Pixis long legs. He needed to identify the traitor. Certus finally locked eyes with the wolf that had betrayed his pack. Suddenly the net was pulled tight as the Pixis yanked the wolf leader downward. Certus no longer felt any of the pain he just kept staring at the traitor wolf. The Pixis dragged Certus behind them as they started to decend.
Alone on the hill, the traitor wolf watched as the Pixis disappeared into the valley of dark shadows. Green eys flickered a shadowy black as smooth silver fur dissolved into snow white scales. The wolfs body twisting as it rose upon hind legs. A reptile shaped head twisted free with a mouthful of sharp pointed teeth. Scaly legs stood tall with sharpened nails and wings that looked like they could reach the moon as the Drakon resumed its true identity.
