That Evening:
Lucy was reading over what she had written when a noise at the window startled her. Looking up, she wasn't surprised to see Natsu perched in her window sill.
"Lucy, why weren't you at the Guild Hall today?" Happy floated in and settled near Lucy's desk, looking at her inquiringly.
"I was, for awhile."
"Yeah, but you left before we got there!"
She looked over at Natsu, surprised he wasn't saying anything. He simply looked over at her, then jumped into her apartment. "So, Luce, you got any more of those chocolates?"
Lucy blushed. "Sorry - I shared them all. They went pretty quickly," she said apologetically.
Natsu shrugged. "No matter. Have you had dinner yet?"
Lucy shook her head. She indicated her papers at her desk. "Sorry, I got on a roll and didn't even realize what time it was!"
Natsu grinned. "Good! You can fix enough for Happy and me, too!"
Lucy sighed, shaking her head, but smiling. Typical Natsu.
"Come on," she told Natsu, "The least you can do is help!"
After making and consuming dinner, they sat around while Natsu entertained them with a story about something he and Happy saw in town that day.
A knock on Lucy's door startled them. Lucy got up to answer it and was met with a face full of flowers when she answered the door.
"Um, hello?" she said, trying to see who was standing behind them.
"Delivery for Miss Lucy Heartfilia!" came a voice. The flowers moved forward and Lucy stepped aside to let the young man in. She gestured to a table for the man to set the flowers, who then left, shutting the door behind them.
"Wow, Luce! Someone must really think you're into flowers!"
"There's a note!" Happy grabbed it and started to open it.
"Hey, cat! That's private!" Lucy said, snatching it from him.
"Is it from your boyfriend?" Happy teased, trying to grab the note away from her.
Lucy blushed at Happy's words, glancing over at Natsu. He just stood there, staring at the flowers.
"Do girls really like it when they get flowers?" Natsu asked, a strange expression on his face.
"It's a nice gesture," Lucy shrugged. She elbowed the exceed away and opened up the note. Looking forward to our date tomorrow! I will pick you up at the Guild Hall at 6:00. Thank you so much for accepting my offer! Yours, Hiro.
Happy snatched the note from her as soon as she finished reading it and he and Natsu read it together.
"So you do have a date tomorrow?" Natsu asked.
Lucy nodded. "I didn't have the heart to say no," she explained, although why she felt she needed excuses for Natsu, she didn't know.
"It's okay, Luce! You have fun!" he told her.
"Okay, Natsu, thanks," Lucy answered, slightly confused.
"Think that guy has a chance?" Happy said in a loud aside to Natsu.
"Nah! Knowing our Luce, she'll probably scare him off."
"What's that supposed to mean?" asked Lucy, feeling insulted.
"Nothing! Just that this guy seemed kind of wimpy!" Natsu said, holding his hand up to stop her approach or worse, a Lucy kick!
"Yeah. You can be pretty scary, Lucy!" Happy said, floating around Natsu's shoulder.
"Don't you two have someplace to go?" Lucy yelled irritably. "Like your own place?"
"See? Told you she could be scary!" Happy whispered loudly to Natsu.
Lucy gave a frustrated yell and the two quickly hopped out the window.
"See ya tomorrow, Luce!" Natsu called as they left.
"Yeah. Tomorrow," sighed Lucy, looking at the flowers. Was she doing the right thing?
"Well, it's just one date," she said, shrugging, and got ready for bed.
