Streetlights

It's all around me.
It's a dream, but I'm not asleep
Hallucinations, but I'm aware.
Heavy winds blowing all around, and wherever they blow, they take me with them.

My imagination now runs wild.
A whole world in my head, all my own
Just for me to explore
I'm carried by the breezes,
Swept off my feet by the thoughts and ideas swimming in my head.

I soar above the towns
The trees
The buildings
Everything below me shines and the streetlights whir by faster than I can count them.

It's dark and light all at once
The stars shine bright, brighter than the sun it seems.
I reach out, wanting to touch them
Pluck them from the sky
Keep them forever
Perhaps make a bracelet out of them.

The world surrounding me beckons me forth, and I want to follow
I want to bound forever through the airy meadows and the forests streaked with sunbeams passing through the canopy.
I want to jump from the treetops and float away with the breezes, to run with the wolves and fly among the stars, to explore and adventure without a care in the world...

But then I open my eyes
And I'm sitting on my bed with a book in my hand but no words in my head, losing track of where I am.
A street light flickers to darkness outside.
And Mama calls from the kitchen, "food's ready."

Thought can be addicting.
One thought leads to another,
One idea to the next,
And soon I'm in a whole new world all my own.
Always alone, never lonely.
Anything can happen, but nothing can hurt me

And then I'm right back there
Soaring above the streetlights
The forests
And the mountains are right there before me,
Calling me,
Inviting me,
And all I want to do is float right up and say hello.

Someday, I will.
Someday I'll bound though airy meadows and forests streaked with sunbeams passing through the canopy.
Someday I'll jump from the treetops and float away with the breezes.
Someday the wind will carry me through glowing
streetlights

Someday, I'll be free
