The sounds of activity in the hallway outside of my room are what awoke me from my sleep. It was dreamless, much to my disappointment, and all that was there was a timeless black void. My clock read 8:07 A.M, and my step father should've left the house by now, so I knew I was emotionally set to leave my bedroom. But I didnt, stalling from reality as long as I could, I sat up and I pulled my laptop into my lap. I logged into my Facebook to see that I had twenty-three new messages.

I clicked on the messages, to see who they were from, and I saw that there was one from Blain. My heart skipped a beat as I opened the tab, eager to read what he'd sent me.

Blain, at 7:39 AM

Good morning ugly Cx

I smiled at my computer screen before typing a reply.

Lena, at 8:10 AM

Morning asshole xD

I close my laptop, and climb out of bed, my feet hitting the cold marble floor of my bedroom. The only sounds I could hear were the soft pitter patter of my feet against the floor. My family quieted down somewhat, and the whispering voices of my bickering siblings came from the living room. I grabbed a bowl out of the cupboard and poured myself some Multi-Grain Cheerios with milk, and took a spoon, walked into the living room. They quieted once they registered that I had entered the room. It was Wednesday, and they we're heading to some community center to hang out with some of their friends.

"When are you leaving?" I asked in between mouthfuls of Cheerios.

"In an hour, Mom said it was okay. We're taking Peyton," Kayla said quietly. "So you can just sleep for the day, can you please clean the kitchen before we get home?"

I nodded. "Sure."

Mason and Jamie both sat on the couch, watching Bubble Guppies with Peyton in between them. I shrug when she asks if I had plans for today, and stand up, putting my bowl into the sink. I head to my room and go back on my laptop, seeing that he replied.

Blain, at 8:35 AM

Wyd?

Even his simple response was enough to make a smile form on my lips. I quickly replied.

Lena, at 8:42

Nothing. Wby?

A few seconds later, it said that my message was seen. He responded by saying that he was eating breakfast and said that he'd message me later today because he had to go help his grandma go grocery shopping. I was a bit disappointed because I was looking forward to having a full conversation with him. I wouldn't even mind having a conversation on how much he hates New York, actually I preferred it over being alone.

I logged off my Facebook, not wanting anyone to see my profile and to see that I was online. I didn't want anyone to message me and ask me if I had time to hang out or if I could go to the movies on Saturday. It's not like I didn't like the people, it was just that I'd gotten so accustomed to the loneliness that it felt out of the norm to have any sort of social interaction.

I liked staying lonely.
