The Doctor gave the gargoyle at the entrance the password and went up the Dumbledore's office. He knocked on the door, and when told he could come in, waltzed on into the office, petting Fawkes- who crooned happily as he went to the desk. "Hello, Proffessor Dumbledore, do you have a moment?"
Dumbledore looked up. "Yes, I do."
"Okay, well, I do have something I think I should tell you. Well, Madame Pomfrey thought I should. Well, Madame Pomfrey and Proffessor McGonagall."
"Oh? And what might that be?"
"Well... I may not be... completely... one hundred percent... human."
"Half-breeds are welcome at Hogwarts."
"Well... No. Pureblood. Just not... Pureblood human..."
Dumbledore sat back, eyebrow raised.
"May not... even be... from this planet."
"Excuse me...?"
"...Or this dimension..."
Dumbledore's other eyebrow raised.
The Doctor took a breath. "My name's not John Smith, either. I'm called the Doctor."
"The Doctor? From another planet in an alternate dimension?" Dumbledore thought for a moment, "What are you doing at Hogwarts then, Doctor?"
"Well, see, It was an accident. But I am glad it happened. I've heard about this place. Lots about it. I only hope nothing came in before or followed me."
"Is that a possibility?"
"Unfortunately, yes. Always a possibility. I might be following something without knowing or something might follow me. Usually, it's the first one. I tend to walk in on invasions and stick around to stop it. It's sort of a hobby of mine."
"I see. How would you be able to tell?"
"Just have to find them. Or, something might be off and I just have to look for it."
"Do you think that something is in Hogwarts?"
"Possibly. But I can help. I can stay and watch and teach astronomy while I'm here. Who better than a traveller of those very stars?"
Dumbledore considered that for a moment. "Alright." He said at last, "But stay as John Smith. It would be much easier for the students."
"No worries- Walking around as a time travelling alien from another dimension doesn't exactly say 'stealth' or 'sit and watch'."
"...Did you say time travelling?"
"Oh, yeah, forgot about that part."
Dumbledore nodded. "...Well, Doctor, If you'll excuse me, I need to speak to the Minister of Magic."
"Oh, yes," The Doctor nodded in agreement, "Better not let anyone from the Ministry see me if I look like Crouch's son. That would end rather badly. Goodbye." He put his hands in his pockets and started to walk off. As he exited, he realized he had a prickling feeling on the back of his neck, like he was being watched. He usually wasn't wrong about that sort of thing. "Harry, that wouldn't happen to be you, would it?" he asked, without looking.
There was a muffled gasp.
"Shut it, Ron!" Came a whisper.
"You can come out from under the cloak now. I know it's you. I'm very good at this game."
There was a ripple and the troublesome trio appeared.
"Hermione? I would have thought you'd be in class." John Smith said.
"I know... these two dragged me along."
"Is it true?" Ron asked, "Are you really an alien?"
The Doctor smiled, "Ah, you should be focused on other things." He looked up. Cornelius Fudge was on his way toward them.
"Mind if I borrow that cloak for a second?"
Harry handed it over and the Doctor disappeared. Fudge walked past, nodding a hello to Harry before walking into Dumbledore's office.
The Doctor gave back the cloak. "There you go."
"Are you hiding from the Minister?"
"It's just better that he doesn't see me, seeing as I look like Barty Crouch."
"Who is Barty Crouch? You don't look like the Barty Crouch I know."
"Oh, Harry, you'll find out eventually. No need for me to spoil things."
"You say that like you know my future."
The Doctor winked, a knowing look on his face.
Ron opened his mouth to say something, but before he could, the bell rang.
The Doctor smiled, "Off to class, then. Oh! here comes Fudge." He hid behind the door as Cornelius walked out, going off down the hall. When Fudge was out of sight, the Doctor came out again. "Hope I don't have to get used to that."
"Why are you hiding from him?" Ron asked.
"If you must know, I look like the bad guy."
"The bad guy?" Harry asked, "...Areyou the bad guy?"
"Nope. Not the bad guy. Just look like him. I'm the Doctor, not Barty." He looked at the group. "Now off to class with you; go on!"
Reluctantly, the three left for class.
