Riding a bike had its ups and downs. You could easily greet passing strangers, but strangers might try to talk to you. I would rather avoid socializing if at all possible. It's greener for the environment, but if I get tired or hurt I'm pretty much stranded where I am. You could appreciate the weather, but you didn't really have a choice not to. I let myself get lost in these thoughts as I rode my beat-up bicycle to the library on the edge of my small town.
Passing through the lively streets and old shops could sometimes feel overwhelming, but today everything just felt calm. Today was just another slow summer afternoon in my irish hometown.
The ride was a short one,  and soon I came upon the old musty library I had come to call my second home. It was an antique-looking old building with industrial touches; it looked almost like a tall home with its many windows and inviting air about it. It was at the very edge of the tightly packed rows upon rows of unique little shops, by where the diverse architecture gave way to the beaten dirt trails and thick woods I had grown to know well since I was a kid.
I walked into the large oak doors, the bell chiming merrily, proclaiming my arrival to all to hear. All who heard being Mr.Okafor and his tux cat, Edgar. The dark, wrinkled old man glanced up at me from his desk and smiled warmly, his eyes twinkling.
"Good afternoon, Azlin. Up a bit early this morning I see." He teased.
"Haha, Very funny," I said dryly. "Do you know if Kaito is here?"
There was humor in his ever youthful, dark eyes. "He's here alright. He's been waiting by the back tables for 10 minutes already. He's been harassing me relentlessly about if we have any new mysteries in yet or if I ever read that one book about the rainy city. He would not be quiet."
I smiled at the librarian. I knew he secretly loved us both being as interested in books as much as he was.
"Thank you Mr. Okafor." I told him, walking up the stairs behind him to the tables by the back of the classic literature section.
