Zahi didn't know where else to go, he didn't have anyone to turn to. All he could do was run.
That's what his parents told him to do when he was scared. 'You're too valuable to fight' they'd say, but he never thought they'd be the ones he was running from.
They called to him as he ran in the thick forest, luckily he was still a boy and small and could easily run through the bushes and trees, but that didn't stop his parents from going after him.

They're going to send me back.
I'm going to be trapped again.
They're going to hurt me.

Those thoughts kept running through Zahi's head as he trudged through a stream and leapt over some rocks.
Unfortunately, with his shoes soaked he slipped and cut himself on the rocks, tumbling down the cliff.
He landed with a small thud and a whimper.
Zahi looked up and hugged himself, watching his parents run by.

His light brown hair was now stained with mud, his clothes now soaked and dirtied, his once perfectly olive skin cut all over and his face stained with tears, both old and fresh. He couldn't help himself from letting a few more out. He just lost his home and family and had nowhere left to go.
A crunch of leaves stopped his cries as Zahi looked up in fear, his eyes met with another boys around his age and he looked at him with curiosity.
His eyes were capturing, two red swirling pools with specks of gold swimming around.
His skin was a light gray and hair a frosty white.

Zahi couldn't help himself from inching away, although he wasn't fearful of him, just cautious.

"He-hello." Zahi's voice was small and he could barely hear it himself, but the other boy seemed to hear him just fine.

"What are you doing here and how'd you find me?"
The boy stepped closer and kneeled down to Zahi's level, he looked into Zahi's purple eyes and stared in wonder, but kept his intimidating glare.

"I, um, I'm sorry. I didn't know you lived here. I'm just trying to escape the bad people." Zahi scooted away and hugged his legs closer to his chest.

The boy sighed and looked down to Zahi's legs and arms, noticing the cuts and bruises all over.
He may be a demon, but he has a lot more empathy than any of the others, he was very different.
"Fine. My name's Nox, come with me."
Nox took Zahi into his arms and carried him away from the cliff towards what seemed to be a cavern.

Zahi was a little than more surprised when Nox picked him up. He didn't expect this boy to help him, he was also a lot stronger than a normal boy, of course he didn't look human which would explain why he was so strong, but Zahi was expecting to see more people down on Earth.

"Um, Nox? Where are we going?"
Zahi couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed that he had to be carried.
"Somewhere I go to escape Hell."
Nox gave Zahi a faint smile, barely noticeable, and walked up to the cavern, walking all the way to the back, only to set Zahi down and move a pile of rocks which seemed to be attached like a wall.
When he was done he helped Zahi to the other side and closed the wall again. When Zahi turned around he saw a little meadow, in the middle was a small cottage. It reminded Zahi of the story of Rapunzel. In his spare time in Heaven when bad things weren't happening to him he would read the story books they gave to him.

Nox picked him back up and walked towards the cottage.
"Woah! What is this place?" Zahi looked around in amazement. Nox ignored him and set him down to open the door. Inside, Nox put Zahi on a bed in the corner of the room.

"I'll be right back. Try not to break anything."
Nox walked into what Zahi assumed was the bathroom and walked back out with a wet cloth and some bandaids.

"This may sting a little bit." Nox started to clean Zahi's cuts with the towel and put the bandaids on them.
He finished and pulled a chair up to the bed.

"So, now that you're a little better, what's your name?"
Zahi felt his skin healing on its own, but he appreciated Nox helping him.

"I'm Zahi."

Nox smiled,
"I like that name, where are you from Zahi?"

Memories of Heaven flashed through Zahi's mind and he felt tears sting his eyes, he didn't want to cry in front of Nox, he would think he's a baby.
"I'm from.. I'm from.."
The tears betrayed him and started to fall, startling Nox.

"Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you."
Nox stood up and brought Zahi into a hug.
Zahi tensed and looked up at Nox,
"I'm sorry, but aren't you a demon? Why are you being so nice to me? My parents only told me bad things about you."

Nox frowned and sighed.
"Well, I don't like it when people call me mean. So I try to be better than the other demons."
He pushed away from the hug and sat down next to Zahi, "But I don't really have that many friends because the other demons are too harsh for me. So it's kind of hard for anyone to trust me, that's why I live out here in the forest."

Zahi saw how sad he looked and smiled, "I'll be your friend Nox! We can live together and we can play and have fun and be nice to each other!"

Nox sighed and gave a sad smile,
"I would really like that. I just hope I don't hurt you like the demon I am."
Zahi frowned and shook his head,
"Don't be silly, I believe you're one of the good guys."

Nox looked into Zahi's eyes and smiled, he was surprised by just how beautiful they were. They appeared to be purple at first glance, but the longer he looked, the more colors they seemed to be.
"Thank you. I always knew an angel would watch over me some day, despite what my mother told me."

Zahi grinned and took Nox's hands and stood up,
"That's right, I'm your guardian angel now. We don't need any mean parents."

Nox tensed up when Zahi held onto him, he would have to start getting used to other people touching him, but he would do anything for his guardian angel.
